  1. It might make an interesting experiment to move Lawrie to the 4th spot.
  2. Common Gibbons are you staring at the hot blonde on the 1B line or paying attention to the game?
  3. K, Redmond is not on tonight. Move on to someone else please.
  4. I think i called not making it through the 5th... ah well. Commmmmmmon Redmond!
  5. Havent researched this in awhile but, i understood that the reason spitballs were ultimately banned is because pitchers would combine the spit with dirt from the mound to make a mudball which again, ultimately lead to the death of Ray Chapman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Chapman Which lead to them being banned
  6. It helps with grip and therefore control, which is a good thing. Its my understanding that it was believed that having foreign substances on the ball would create a bit of a knuckleball effect by creating turbulence around the ball but that this was categorically disproved in a wind tunnel. The single reason that these substances are illegal are for the so called mudballs.
  7. I think the rules against grip substances is kind of silly. It evolved due to pitchers trying to blacken the ball (mudballs) so that batters couldnt see it. Someone got killed and they made a rule, no more foreign substances. Well, now pitchers get a new ball every couple of pitches, so there is no danger of them being mudballs. At the same time, I hate cheating or even bending rules, so I hope everyone currently using the stuff gets caught. still should change the rule though.
  8. This is bang on. If he gets through the 5th inning ill be surprised... actually ill probably be disappointed because it will mean that the O's have 6+ runs and Gibbons left him in too long
  9. Believe it or not, Jays are 8th in the Majors in runs scored
  10. There is a time and place for it, but not with a rhp and up by 3
  11. Gibbons must have been watching Major League I last night
  12. Im pretty sure that was a <80mph inside fastball that got blasted out of the park. EDIT: got my < > all messed up... my grade 2 math teacher is going to be pissed.
  13. Well I trust Redmond. And more importantly, I'd trust anyone over a pitcher that is clearly gassed like Dickey was in the 6th.
