SF just took on Devers $300m contract, knowing he’s a DH with lesser demonstrated success and a lesser ceiling than Vlad AND paid a legit price for the privilege . I’d like to be wrong on Kirk. Like Kirk, I believed in Jansen for a little while but couldn’t stand him at the end. I only recently turned on Kirk when he started slow again. As you said, it’s a long season and I wouldn’t be spiking the football yet. I won’t mind being wrong. Gimenez sucks. Slap hitting 2b, even good defensive ones, get nothing in FA. There’s no need for me to embarrass Laila again with the comps on that.

If they were competing, I’d definitely agree. If you’re more pessimistic on that, I wouldn’t like it. Worst case scenario on performance, he’s awful and you wasted those innings looking at internal guys. Best case scenario, he finds an extra gear going into FA. I don’t like signing those guys to bigger FA deals and if you don’t sign him, you did him a favor for nothing if it didn’t get you anywhere lol. That said, the Jays roster is so uninspiring it would be really hard to complain about the pickup. He’d likely only be taking innings from AAAA lifers
