  1. I'm torn. 4-5 years for either of them comes with a lot of risk. But on the flip side, if both leave then we are looking at some DARK days for at least a couple of years - minimum. But let's say Shapiro goes that route, we suck for a couple years and then Shapiro thinks it's now the right time to sign an elite bat or two. He's going to be giving up even more term, 2 to 3 years more term since that's what elite bats get in free agency and he's probably assuming even more risk because those long term contracts usually look like s*** in the last couple years. Plus who's to say that we ever make it back to where we are now? It's taken us over 20 years to get back to the post season. This team has a window of likely 2-3 more years after this year, IMO we need to take advantage of it. Bautista and EE are known commodities. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't. Obviously Bautista is going to come down from 5 year $150M. Nobody is going to pay him that. Give them both 4 year deals. EE 4 years $84M, Bautista 4 years $100M. They could be s*** deals at the end but we need to take advantage of this window because there's no guarantee that we'll get back here any time soon.
  2. I'd like for Jose to retire a Jay too. But I don't want to give him the term he'll be looking for which will likely take him to the point where he's a liability and making $20M+/yr, which seems to be the norm for aging superstars...so I don't think the chances of him retiring a Jay are very high.
  3. I think they merged 2 threads rather than locking/deleting the 2nd one because my original thread title was slightly trollish...
  4. Shi Davidi ‏@ShiDavidi · 28m28 minutes ago #BlueJays sign INF Maicer Izturis to minor-league deal with invitation to spring training. Hasn't played in big-leagues since April 2014.
  5. But not because of this Toronto Blue Jays ‏@BlueJays · 14m14 minutes ago .@BlueJays sign Maicer Izturis to a @MiLB deal with an invite to @MLB #SpringTraining.
  6. I don't know if there's any substance to this, but interesting none the less. http://www.tsn.ca/mlb-rumour-mill-pillar-for-pitching-help-1.396290 Fox Sports' JP Morosi is reporting that the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees have been in active trade talks with the Cleveland Indians about a potential pitcher for every day outfielder swap. With OF Michael Brantley expected to miss the start of the 2016 season after undergoing shoulder surgery and the team holding six bonafide starting pitchers, the Cleveland Indians would be willing to part with one. Do the Jays believe enough in Dalton Pompey's future to entertain the thought of trading Pillar, a gold-glove calibre defender? Or are they committed enough to Pillar that they would be willing to part with the 23-year-old Pompey, who was the teams' Opening Day centre fielder this year? With the expected departure of ace David Price and a need to upgrade the rotation, the Jays' front office faces a tough decision. [Mod note: Thread merged because Morosi's tweet has been discussed in this thread since yesterday at ~4 pm.]
  7. He's definitely more valuable to us than a middling reliever.
  8. I did too. Hindsight is 20/20. I'd think Bello could fetch someone as established as Estrada was a year ago. Or close to it anyways.
  9. Estrada wasn't exactly a hot commodity a year ago...
  10. uuuugghh... Canucks fan here...
  11. Colabello probably has very similar value to what Adam Lind had last year. Lind was more established but Colabello plays a better 1B and has more control/is cheaper.
  12. Here's a question: Would you rather sign Davis to 5-6 years now or Bautista or EE (one of the 2, doesn't matter who) to 4 years next year? Davis is only 29, so we should get 5-6 good years of production out of him provided he stays healthy (All 3 players have had their share of injury history). Assuming 5-6 years would be enough term for Davis, we would have a stacked team next year and would receive QO compensation for either Bautista or EE if one or both is not re-signed. So who would you rather sign? Davis now or Bautista/EE later?
  13. http://www.tsn.ca/report-price-interested-in-cubs-jays-covet-davis-1.389379 Toronto Blue Jays starter David Price will be a coveted commodity on the free agent market, but he might only have eyes for one team. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the 30-year-old lefty is interested in reuniting with former manager Joe Maddon and the Chicago Cubs. Price played under Maddon for parts of seven seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays and was the recepient of the 2012 Cy Young Award. Price started last season as a member of the Detroit Tigers before being traded to the Jays at the trade deadline in August. The native of Murfeesboro, Tennessee was a combined 18-5 with a league-leading 2.45 ERA and a WHIP of 1.076. With the Jays, Price was 9-1 in 11 starts. In the postseason, Price was 1-2 with a 6.17 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. He started three games and made one appearance out of the bullpen. Price heads a free agent pitching class that includes the Los Angeles Dodgers' Zack Greinke, Jordan Zimmermann of the Washington Nationals and the World Series champion Kansas City Royals' Johnny Cueto. Rosenthal also reports that the Blue Jays have interest in Baltimore Orioles free agent first baseman Chris Davis. Davis, 29, led the MLB in home runs this past season with 47. He hit .262 with 117 runs batted in and an OPS of .923. A native of Longview, Texas, Davis hit 53 home runs two seasons ago. Major League Baseball free agency officially opens on November 13. Well, if we can't ink any good SP, I suppose more offense doesn't hurt. So...what kind of a contract is Davis going to command? Maybe this allows us to trade Bautista or EE for SP?
  14. Morrow is horrible. I'm tired of throwing guys out there cuz of their 'stuff'. Happ > Morrow and after 9 major league appearances Stroman has as many wins as Morrow has had the last 2 years. If we could turn him into an effective BP arm I'd be more than happy. Otherwise good riddance!
  15. I still go to the Jays site for standings and stats but I can't stand the posters there. WangDickeyJohnson and Sempai are horrible. Probs to this board.
  16. Thank you! I got flamed for pretty much saying the same thing. Yes, I know the poster meant WAR but Morrow has 3 combined wins the last 2 years and I wouldn't be surprised if that number doesn't change until maybe 2015. Get this guy out of here, it's time to go with someone else. Jays management said Esmil Rogers might have the best stuff on the team. Should we save him a roster spot too?
  17. 3 wins in a season? lol don't set your sights too lofty now...
  18. Ewww no. Resigning Morrow would mean one of Melky or Rasmus could be gone. I'd much rather go with internal options.
  19. I have a feeling he's thrown his last pitch as a Jay.
  20. Forget about the stats. Do we want Morrow back or are we done with this project?
  21. I never understood the Buck hate until I really started paying attention this year. Buck barely makes it out of the 2nd inning without tripping over simple sentences and falling on his face. Tabler is a bit better but not by much. The Alzheimer is setting in...
  22. I don't know...Honestly, I'm over the whole trade Morrow for League trade. It went back and forth for a long time but I'd say Seattle won the trade pretty substantially. League had 37 saves one year and has been the healthier/more consistent of the 2 ever since. As far as I'm concerned, Morrow is dead weight. Trade him or throw him in the bullpen and don't pick up his option this winter. JJ 2.0. How long til Morrow requires TJS? AA: It's over. Morrow: Give me another chance... AA: It's not you...it's me.
  23. On the other hand, I feel like the rest of the AL East will go on a shopping spree if they miss the postseason, while we'll probably just blow our team up and miss the postseason at least a few more years. I'm so torn!! I became a Jays fan right after they went back to back, I was 8 years old then so I didn't really know what was going on but I've never experienced postseason baseball as a fan. The amount of DAYS I've spent watching Jays games is pathetic lol....especially since the PVR was invented! We deserve postseason baseball!
  24. Agree with everything you said. We need another front end SP to put us over the top but we can't give up our top 2 prospects. I know you can't predict a prospects future but Stroman and Sanchez are the best pitching prospects we've had (and not traded away) in years. Let's develop these guys!! There's going to be other SP available where we won't have to mortgage our future entirely. In the end, if we have to trade one of them so be it. I don't think I could choose though...I'd probably just flip a coin.
