  1. Flip the Jays and Yankees in the standings.... who is still on the 'we have a chance, go for it' bandwagon? There's just too much value to give up to get any tangible improvement this season. I actually appreciate this approach after last season's wild-west. I'm hoping AA can add a so-so RP sometime before the Aug 31st deadline but really, that's all I'm expecting. The only sad part about this deadline is the clear indication and reaffirmation that Rogers has closed the wallet on the Jays for the foreseeable future.
  2. Wait, I thought this was the Lester trade thread? #ThreadFail EDIT: I think this trade signals that the Red Sox expect to be back in it in 2015. They have a few pieces on the farm and the cash to bring in some arms in the offseason. We shall see but I wouldn't be surprised to see them bounce back much like they did last year.
  3. s*** man, I would of brought the cheese if I knew there would be this much wine in the morning.
  4. You do not have to worry about theScore's mobile app going anywhere. If anything, this was a strategic move to push more resources to the mobile side. Tough to watch talented people go but their blogs weren't generating the kind of traffic that's needed to employ full-time feature writers.
  5. Wait! Wait! I thought it was just horrible drafting?! /sarcasm If the Jays knews they would of stocked up on high-risk HS talent in Rounds 10+, they may have approached picks 4-10 differently. Hindsight is 20-20.
  6. Take a read of this article... key quotes. Though the team’s season is over, Zehner has another year of college ball to look forward to. Rather than head to the professional ranks with the Blue Jays, he will return to Cal Poly for his senior year. “I just feel like there’s a lot of unfinished business and I thought we definitely could have made a longer run in the playoffs last year,” he said. Zehner’s decision was mostly his, though his parents were supportive either way, he said. His return also means a second chance for him to help the Mustangs advance further in the NCAA Tournament. “With school being really important, I wanted to finish,” he said. “I hope we make it to Omaha (next year). I think the sky’s the limit with this team.” - See more at: http://mustangnews.net/zack-zehner-to-forgo-pros-for-senior-season-at-cal-poly/#sthash.BOyXeJ4H.dpuf
  7. Given Hoffman and Pentecost sign at slot, and ZZ goes back to college (hope he is forced to sign a 1k deal next year). What is the amount we can throw at Houck assuming the 5% overage (is the 5% overage on the entire draft pool? Does it subtract what we lost with ZZ?)?
  8. Ang hit it on the head (albeit repeated 10 times in this thread). People need to relax... we still have a month to go. If we enter into the second week of July with no word, then you can start to wonder. Otherwise, focus on the Round 10+ guys... that's where the action will be.
  9. Flames, that is definitely another way to look at it, given rounds 6-10 could net that 400k we need for Lane. Does the fact that 4 of 6-10 are juniors matter when evaluating risk? Will we need to shell out more to get them to bite?
  10. With Morgan and Wells potentially only netting 150k in savings. It will come down to 6-10 to get the extra cash for Rounds 11+.
  11. I'm not sure the Jays didn't want him to sign, but moreso they didn't want to sign him for significantly over-slot and were comfortable if he didn't. I highly doubt a major league team punts a top 10 pick. The Jays wanted him, not at his price but at theirs.
  12. Beede and Stroman are a push right now. The fact Stroman has made an impact at the MLB level negates any 'ceiling' Beede might have. Could be a different story in a few years, but for now I call the first a push. Bickford and Pentecost follow a similar pattern. Bickford's ceiling is greater but Pentecost is more projectable right now. Again... a push that will take years to see the true value of each player. In both scenarios, you could make arguments for one over the other, and vice versa. Personally, I think the Jays did well and much prefer the precedent they set (i.e., we are not going to ruin our entire draft to pay you way overslot as a HS pitcher) over the alternative.
  13. I think it shows the MLB process in place works. It doesn't cripple your system for taking a risk on a 'hard to sign' guy. Jays benefited from a bit of draft luck and were able to select solid value in their make-up picks. Teams need this security around high-schoolers/juniors if they are going to try and draft the BPA without fear of rejection.
  14. I'm not sure we get the full value of a punted pick, but hopefully we can net 100k on it. Given how the top 3 picks shook out, I'm less worried about making it up in Rounds 11+. Would be very happy with one of Houck or Latz, although I'm thinking Latz goes off to school to work with his Papi.
  15. I can fap to slot. All. Day. Long. Rounds 1-10 seem to be on track. Not sure if we can grab as much after market talent (Rounds 11+) as we are used to.
  16. I grabbed this last night for Hayhurst. Hope he likes it.
  17. Boy is it nice to have the Bisons so close for all these moves...
  18. <--- Definitely voted A. Took all of 2 seconds to analyse. Should of picked up on the 200th HR.
  19. "There's no excuse," Reyes said. "I should make a better throw there. That's a routine ground ball, I got it perfect. I just didn't have enough on the throw." So we all good now?
  20. The Jays squeaked out a few runs and wins through ball-luck / unexpected defensive plays during the winning streak, so I'm OK if the ball-luck ran out yesterday. Like others have said, if the Jays bounce back tonight, all will be forgotten. Ya'll need to calm down.
  21. Manufacturin' runs. Love it. Maddon playing the numbers, but with fire as well.
