It can't be that simple, if it were, Boras would have just said "there's no way he signs for less than $20M" and just let him become a free agent without restrictions next year (and he plays a year in indie ball). Would be a LOT more money in Boras' pocket (all he really cares about) with a little patience.
After reading that article, I'm not 100% sure that the author isn't just looking at the slot value and assumed that's what he signed for.
"Taken by the Blue Jays with the 47th pick, the Woodford Co. fireballer will sign a pro contract and pick up a bonus of more than $1.1 million."
Maybe he signed for slot, but I wouldn't take that article as proof of that.
I've used it before, but I'm watching on my media box which I don't use for anything else, and haven't needed it before...
