    Because that's just what they do. Sanchez isn't getting any special treatment here.

    Well lower half plunks are pretty rare to begin with so I'm not sure that's really relevant but in any case, the umpire tossed Sanchez for that lower half plunk and the league just followed protocol by adding a minimal suspension.

    They probably do but the timing of the umpire's warning meant that technically only Sanchez was at fault.

    It used to be that your appeal was heard as soon as you could make it to the league office in New York (so basically next road series against the Mets or Yankees or next home game if you were a member of those teams). It was a weird somewhat unfair system but one no one really seemed to mind either.

    Wok made a good point. They kind of had their hands tied by the actions of the ump. They couldn't really do anything to the Royals without showing him up (which I wish they would have anyways but I understand why they didn't).

    Yes but only if it's judged to be intentional which can be a difficult call to make. You can't punish a guy merely based on the serverity of the incident. You have to judge intent and that's highly subjective.

    Yeah I get that they basically went with an interpretationt that's very favourable to the Royals. They could have just as easily judged at least one of the balls thrown at Donaldson to be intentional and had about as much of an argument as they had for the Sanchez pitch. That being said, they basically treated the whole scenario with kid gloves, only giving a very light punishment for the one throw they judged (possibly incorrectly) to be the most obvious bean.

    Exactly. Theses suspensions are more symbolic than anything else. Sanchez can file an appeal then pitch 2 innings in a game and then immediately drop the appeal and take the rest. It's really quite easy to work around something like this.

    Is anyone here disputing that Sanchez intentionally threw at the batter? What's the big deal. Aaron and Gibby probably knew it was coming. Was still worth it.

    Not sure I understand the reaction. This kind of punishment isn't particularly harsh and Sanchez can always file an appeal.

    Deeper playoff run = more revenue (not to mention projected gate receipts have already gone up since the trade deadline moves).

    Both Loup and Schultz have options. Either could be demoted depending on how comfortable one is with Cecil as the lone lefty. (I don't have much of an issue with it myself).

    I suppose it is but it could take a long time to get this good again in which case Norris et al. won't really make a difference. I think it's fair to look at how good the team is on paper and not just at the standings.

    It is without a doubt a bad trade on paper but context is everything. You can't take opportunities to go for it for granted. The roster will rarely be better than it is now and the competition will rarely be weaker.

    Yeah I mean losing him is going to hurt but it's not like the Jays could realistically expect to call him up and for him to be David Price. I thnk the Jays would have really, really loved for Norris and/or Boyd to run away with a job in 2015 but it wasn't in the cards and the clock is ticking on this nucleus as well as on AA himself. Desperate times call for bold measures.

    It wasn't just that. It was frustration with the front office which to be fair did a whole lot of herp-derping from 2012 to 2014.

    There's probably some residual fatigue in Hutch's arm. 184.2 IP last year in his firs year of full time duty. Some skipped starts probably woudn't hurt and as the only young guy in the rotation, he's the only one who might truly need it.
