    I love Semian... But can't we replace his wins cheaper spread out elsewhere? The contract it would take to keep him out of California would be poor value. Ray will give a tiny bit of hometown discount I think.

    The assets accumulated by trading Semian and Ray would have been very useful to pick up something at the deadline next year (or maybe to help out next year). This year was a seller's market.

    they weakened their chances next year, for a questionable strategy this year. buying this year was premature

    why do you say that? they aren't that good. average-ish team. People rightfully blame Charlie, because he sucks. But the team is nowhere near close to competing. I think Shatkins knows this, so they made some window dressing moves at the deadline and will continue on with their build. The real shame is not being sellers at the deadline. The org long term was hurt by the Jays early over-performance.

    There was a minority of us on the trade Semian bandwagon, and we generally were disregarded. Certainly Shatkins did not heed our advice.

    I guess an extra couple of weeks of futile hope was worth whatever return Semian and Ray would have gotten. Good organizations practice ruthless asset management. Bad organizations don't make smart trades because they bought the rights to an Edward Sharpe song and didn't want to ruin the mood.

    You should feel good about this team. They are going to be fun to watch for years to come. But they were never making the playoffs this year.

    This team had a low percentage chance to make the playoffs. It went up marginally when we got Berrios, and went down dramatically on Springer's ankle.

    You gotta be pretty dumb to compromise yourself like this in general. And even dumber to text stuff. I don't know what he's guilty of legally, but he's certainly guilty of enormous stupidity.
