  1. AJ Cole has a higher WAR in 16 IP than Gerrit Cole has in 46 IP. Also salary of $560,000 vs. $36,000,000. Looks like we signed the right Cole after all?
  2. bluejays.com transactions page has 1 PTBNL going each way. Typo? 08/31/20 Los Angeles Dodgers traded RHP Ross Stripling and Player To Be Named Later to Toronto Blue Jays for Player To Be Named Later.
  3. 1. Massive acquisition cost 2. Huge contract/salary to take on 3. He has an opt out available after next season 4. Arenado has a full no trade so who knows if he would even approve of a trade to the Jays
  4. Its Olerud363. Its always in jest.
  5. https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2008339/5-mlb-trades-that-could-happen-ahead-of-next-weeks-deadline I'd do this in a heartbeat if actually offered. If we are able to upgrade the ML roster with spare pieces like Tellez and Zeuch I would be super impressed. "Blue Jays acquire La Stella, Simmons from Angels BLUE JAYS GET IF Tommy La Stella SS Andrelton Simmons ANGELS GET 1B Rowdy Tellez SP T.J. Zeuch After hitting the nadir of their rebuild a year ago, the ascendant Blue Jays are flirting with respectability again, playing above .500 through the first month of 2020 despite losing star shortstop Bo Bichette to a knee injury that could sideline him for the majority of the season. Meanwhile, for the umpteenth year in a row, the Angels are a massive disappointment and will almost certainly try to offload as many of their soon-to-be free agents as possible. If the Blue Jays hope to amount to more than an also-ran in 2020, they would do well to inquire. Simmons, his shortcomings with the bat notwithstanding, is a massive defensive upgrade over Toronto's incumbent shortstops, such as they are. Additionally, his relatively hefty salary could enable the Blue Jays to get La Stella - a versatile infielder quietly worth 2.3 WAR over his last 106 games - included in the deal. La Stella, who owns a .828 OPS since 2019, could split his time between second and first base with the Blue Jays, with Cavan Biggio moving to the outfield to accommodate him. The deal would ultimately bolster a lineup lacking in depth in the wake of Bichette's injury. Though fringe contenders are typically reluctant to part ways with long-term pieces for rentals, the Blue Jays essentially have another Tellez at the ready after acquiring Dan Vogelbach from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Zeuch - a ground ball-inducing 25-year-old right-hander with some big-league experience - has fallen down the organizational depth chart of late. Neither loss would meaningfully affect the club's short- or long-term future. For the Angels, given their continuing inability to develop pitching and construct a competent major-league staff, Zeuch - under control through 2025 - represents a potential upgrade over some of their current big-league starters. Unlike many of the pitchers in the upper levels of their organization, Zeuch has a modicum of upside. Tellez, meanwhile, remains under control through 2024 and could be Albert Pujols' long-term replacement at first base if he can refine his approach a bit: Tellez has 29 home runs and 31 doubles through his first 154 big-league games, albeit with a .297 on-base percentage and a sky-high chase rate."
  6. Ha. Suck it.
  7. I feel like McGuire would get more calls at the bottom of the zone if he held the glove where the ball is caught (at the knees). On both of those pitches called balls he pulled the glove back up to the middle of the zone and is just too much glove movement for a subtle frame.
  8. Sloppy fundamental defence is so painful to watch.
  9. Boxcar was a poor Canadian kid with immense BJMB talent. Gets signed to host a podcast for zero dollars as a young man in a free country. I think it's pretty reasonable to expect someone like that to become a bit of a douchebag. It's kind of like poor people winning the lottery. They don't know how to handle it. Boxcar obviously worked super hard to get to the top of BJMB, then got smug and I guess took his foot off the gas. He realizes that now and I'm honestly surprised he would admit openly about his arrogance. That doesn't really seem like a guy who dodges responsibility. Obviously, on the BJMB, getting arrogant is a death sentence. Boxcar recognizes that and is trying to overcome it. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised by guys like Jim not recognizing Boxcar's difficult path through life. He regrets how he acted a couple weeks ago before political posts were banned. Should that stain his reputation for the rest of his life? Most BJMB readers hated him when he first came up and then started to drop off. We've all seen the video of Jim chucking Boxcar's luggage in the street. We've also seen Boxy and Jim take the CN Tower edgewalk together when they were here. Whatever Boxcar was in his younger days, I am having a very hard time finding evidence that he's the same person now. People can grow. I mean, I think if King (RIP) ever dropped off from his utterly elite form, people might be saying the same thing about him. Final point, even IF there's a small gap between him and Spanky (which I disagree with, but let's roll with it) it's hard to deny that there is a sleeping giant in Boxcar that could be awakened, a late career resurgence. He's a genuine 5 tool poster. Would anyone be shocked to see him put up 4 good posts this year? Maybe, but you could buy it based on his obvious talent. Even if he never hits that, and stays as a 2-ish good posts per year contributor, that's still a massive improvement over Spanky at a quite minimal cost. Spanky is a terrific bench option on a good message board, he can s***-post at an average level with coherence and cover all three main board threads reasonably ok, so I don't want to get rid of him. He's just very obviously not starting calibre.
  10. Oh I'm not concerned about the possibility him not signing. I was just curious what the process would be if a top prospect stayed in school until he was a senior and then did not sign coming out of the draft. Would that player then be a free agent and able to sign with the team of their choosing?
  11. Hypothetically, lets say Martin doesn't sign and re-enters the draft next year. Then he is drafted again in 2021 and once again doesn't sign. What would his status then be? Would he be a free agent and able to sign with the team of his choosing?
  12. Cespedes about to get the Bobby Bonilla treatment.
  13. Boras is at $878 million when you include Moustakas. Will get to $1 billion easily.
  14. The Giants selected Dany Jimenez from us. They sure do love our fringe pitching prospects..
  15. Bit of nostalgia here but how about bring back Brandon Morrow on a 1 year/$1 million type deal as a low risk/medium reward type move. Sounds like his current best offer is a minor league deal. Obviously there's a high chance of re-injury but we have lots of holes to fill in our bullpen and he could end up being a stabilising piece. Or a deadline flip candidate if the team isn't competitive this year.
  16. Its December 4 Todd. Come back in February if they haven't done anything and bitch then.
  17. Looks like forum darling and Hardball times writer Jen Ramos was in an extremely serious car crash on the weekend. Her husband was pronounced dead at the scene and she was taken to hospital in critical condition. Long, long road to recovery ahead for her.
  18. Would be very very surprising if he wasn't top 100 by end of the season.
  19. Aggressive assignment for SWR.
