  1. The reason you pick up the Happ option is that he is an insurance vs injury, you don't expect him to be in the BP the whole season. I don't see us trading Buehrle for a few reasons. I don't see us getting much a return for him unless we kick in more cash than that. He also offers us something we don't get from anyone other than Dickey, a guarantee of 200 innings. When you plan on rolling with unproven guys (like our rookies) it pays to have some stability if things go sideways.
  2. Great Peripherals! small WAR
  3. He doesn't need to come with Josh Thole, that just an odd choice from management. I agree that Dickey is a valuable commodity (especially if you believe in the Knuckle-ball effect). If its me, I start the year with Dickey, Buerhle, Stroman, Hutchison, Sanchez. You have Happ and Redmond in long relief with the ability to spot start. You have Norris, Nolin, and a few others in AAA ready for injuries. That's a few arms you can count on for 200 innings each (almost a lock), some nice high upside starter, good spot-start backup, and a little depth (including high-upside depth). All that only costs the team just over 40M.
  4. for what its worth ZiPS has him as on pace for 3.4 WAR (2.5 right now). You can call him overpaid, or a bad long term asset, but for now he is above average, and I agree with those numbers.
  5. How doesn't it sound promising? it doesn't positive or negative.

Much easier to cheer for the Canadian boys when it doesn't involve cheering for the Cavs. Nice and close to MB too . I wonder if the rumors that Bennett is on the move (again) are true? I would think that would be selling very low.
  8. Who stays down for next year? The only guy on that list lower than AAA is Russell. Should be an interesting / awesome couple of years to watch the Cubbies.
  9. Its nice to have a guy like Alcantara that can fit into any positions. I'd almost be inclined to trade him as a 2B than use him in CF, but it would be a nice thing for a team to have a guy that can play 2B, CF, and SS in a pinch (utility a-la Zobrist) Do we see a lineup next year of; C - W. Castro 1B - A. Rizzo 2B - J. Baez SS - S. Castro (traded so A. Russell can play) 3B - K. Bryant LF - J. Lake or whoever CF - A. Alcantara RF - J. Soler All of those guys may be ready next year. Thats a crazy young, but crazy talented roster. Just need some pitching.
  10. Still looking to deal Reyes for a 3B-OTF. Just want to keep it out there.
  11. This is a tough question really. On a 4 man bench we need a backup C (Thole), a backup CF (Gose), and a backup MIF. This leaves you room for two platoon bats. I think Reimold is a nice platoon bat (for Lind) / bat off the bench. He get the spot for me. I don't see how you avoid loosing Francisco and maybe even Valencia (which won't happen). The only way you can not loose one or both of those guys is leave your team with no backup at CF of MIF. If one of those guys gets hurt, you play out that game and move a move for the next game. Its not ideal, but it might have to happen. For what its worth my bench is; Thole, Reimold, Tolleson, and Valencia (just because I know he won't be sent down). Starting Roster is; Reyes, Cabrera, Bautista, Lind, EE, Navarro, Lawrie, Rasmus, Goins or Kawa Sent down; Francisco, Gose, Goins or Kawa
  12. May have already been mentioned (didn't read the whole thread), but if you are lackey, don't you consider retirement rather than playing for the min? Just saw spanks post. Yeah, what he said
  13. I told him to trade me for Reyes... but he wouldn't bite.
  14. That is the best thing ever has the ring on tho.
  15. That's awesome. Cubs are definitely my favorite NL team these days. Should be fun to watch as all the kids make their way up. If they do it right they should be able to keep the core together longer term with their payroll capacity.
  16. just flip me Gallo for Reyes and all will be well for you this year.
  17. Probably a good time to shake things up and trade for Reyes. I need a 3B OTF and you have the pieces.
  18. I traded the #2 prospect for the #7 prospect in the DDL and now have 7 - Russell 11 - Giolito 16 - Bundy 25 - Stewart 31 - Meyer 42 - Gordon 90 - Newcomb
  19. I need more days like today if I want to make it out of the DDL cellar. HR's by Polanco, Ozuna, and Singleton. My power game needs to improve for sure!!
  20. I had an excuse, was at the lake. That being said, I did try to pick (and apparently the 'find' doesn't work well on my Surface, I did do it). I'll take Eric Comrie
  21. It hurt giving up OT, but I've been wanting to trade an OF for an IF prospect for a while and I think Russell will be as big a fantasy asset as OT when you account for position. Gotta give up something to get something. Good dealing with ya Boxy. ps. Reyes is available for a long term option at 3B. Not motivated to move him right now if I don't get the right return, but he is out there.
  22. I feel like this is one of those rants I never saw on the old board because both users were banned before I logged back on. Take it outside you two!! (Of this thread that is)
  23. Hurry up and pick JFAS/TRM!! I'm so close to being finished with this I can taste it!
