Not sure where to post this, so I thought here. NJH, JFAS, how accurate are defensive WAR numbers from back in the day? (on Fangraphs) I'm a big Ted Williams fan (the numbers, and him generally being a badass), but his defensive numbers are not good. That being said, he still holds a 130.4 career WAR. I got me thinking about what that number actually represents. Does anyone know how they are calculated for historical players?
