  1. People can have their own opinions on if this was on-side or not, but I think it smells. I find it similar to if a team agreed to sign free agent X, but after that agreement found out they were in the running for free agent Y. They then delay actually agreeing to the deal with player X while "reviewing medical records". They end up signing player Y and go back to player X and say they don't like the medicals, our new offer is this lower number. Sure player X is free to go back to the next highest bidder, but is has costs him time and maybe other opportunities are gone at this point. It could be totally innocent with one having nothing to do with the other, but it makes me raise an eyebrow.
  2. Its not the medicals that is sleazy, its the fact they have had LOTS of time to review this deal and its been hanging in the wind while the worked on a deal for a different outfielder.
  3. So much for honoring your deals. Pretty sleazy practice to try to squeeze on a deal that was already agreed two right after you trade for another OF.
  4. with Lowrie off the board, Toritani is someone we really need to add. Play him at 2B to let Travis spend some more time in the high minors. Can play SS if Reyes goes down (with Travis coming up). Our other options right now are carrying Kawasaki or Goins as a MIF backup and rolling with Travis right out of the gate. For what it seems like it will cost, this pretty much has to happen IMO.
  5. yeah, he's not really a typical power guy who's FB/HR ratio can make or kill his season. Seems to hit a lot of line drives. It would just be nice to have him in a hitters park that might be worth an extra dinger or two.
  6. Why do you roam from crappy park to crappy park Michael Morse... WHY!
  7. They aren't tho... Stroman and Hutchison are. Dickey and MB are what they are, a solid 3-4 pitching combo who will almost certainly not have an arm issue.
  8. I don't even oppose picking up a decent pitcher (although I don't think I could support getting Scherzer for 6+ years). It would give us a big bonus over what Happ would provide, give us depth and let Norris develop a bit more. I was just arguing that we are a substantially better club with the OS moves.
  9. You could do the injury thing with any club. I think the above shows we are at least likely better than 2 wins better and that doesn't take into account getting something better out of 2b (be it Travis or an addition), any pitch framing wins, any value from trading Navarro, any value out of our CF, any value from our 5th starter (who could be better than Happ if its Norris).
  10. Its not like you can just add up WAR for the players in and out, you need to look at what you gain/lose at each position. Using steamers projections C - +Martin - Navarro (+3.1 WAR) (and we haven't added anything for whoever he trades Navarro for) 1B- +Smoak - Lind (-0.4 WAR) 2B- hard to say SS- no change 3B- +Donaldson - Lawrie (+1.8 WAR) (if Lawrie stays healthy) LF- +Saundeers - Melky (0 WAR) CF- +Pompey - Rasmus (-1.2 WAR). Pillar is projected at 1.2 WAR as well, but not sure how much he will play (hopefully not much in CF) RF- no change On the pitching side its harder to compare because we lost so many RP's and we don't know who will be replacing them, but none of Janssen, Graveman, or Nolin projected for much value and RP's are uber volatile anyway unless they are elite (none of those guys). Estrada in, but also little projection. We lose JP Happ (1.2 WAR) but plunk in Norris or Sanchez. We also haven't factored in pitch framing wins that will show up in the pitchers WAR. In adding wins, AA has also cleared payroll space which I truly hope he is in a position to spend.
  11. It was TLDR, but I can see people getting annoyed that we aren't continuing to add useful prices at reasonable pieces for what seems like payroll reasons.
  12. f*** the Padres if they trade for Myers
  13. d'oh, moved
  14. I was very confused when I first saw "Blue Jays Interested In Rizzo" on MLBTR. Instantly thought of Anthony Rizzo till I read the rest of it.
  15. How'd that work out for them! lol f***... I own him in the DDL.
  16. Get Chara, Sharp, and Letang back this week. This should be funner going forward
  17. oh Bob Ryan... you found the linchpin of WAR, the replacement player... we were hoping nobody would thing about him because he doesn't exist. I guess he got us.
  18. wait wait wait wait... how hot and how dumb are we talking about?
  19. my favorite part of that is the hearts by Gibbons. oh Japan.
  20. Looked it up. I got Paxton too (which is nice). and Sean Nolin and a pick grade to #22 who turned out to be Trea Turner.
  21. yup. Can't remember exactly what I traded him for, but I think it involved Delino and Rafael Montero.
  22. Not going to lie, it is fairly pretty.
  23. I like Upton too depending on who we are talking about.
  24. I'd like Lawrie and I have a few pitchers I could deal from. Lets talk.
