before we get too close to it, I thought I would table a change to the prospect draft rules. Anyone interested in now having 'extra' picks dissolved prior to the draft? This leaves picks trade-able mid-draft and prospects drop-able mid-draft (if you like someone on the board better than a prospect in your system). I don't care too much either way, but we should have the discussion. It adds a bit of interest to the draft to have picks trade-able during (like the NFL draft).

Still looking to deal Plouffe to someone not happy with their 3B situation (desperate more than unhappy I guess). Projected to be an average bat with some pop (and wow he was worth 3.5 WAR last year, who knew)

nobody was able to answer my question, but would it not be a good idea for the Leafs to plan on being a cap team during their rebuild? Do you not think a team could get a decent return by taking on bad contracts for prospects? Most other bad teams want to keep the payroll near the floor because they aren't going to have big revenues during the rebuild. Leafs don't have the problem. I'd have to think there would be a laundry list of teams that would jump at the chance to sell a bad contract at the costs of a prospect or pick (then spend that money on someone else) Same thing with Kessel, Phaneuf, Clarkson if you can keep some of the cap hit when you trade a player (why I asked the original question). They would command a much bigger return if they didn't come with the same cap hit.

Anyone know the cap rules in the NHL enough to answer a question for me? If you keep money when you trade someone does it count against your cap instead of who you trade with, or is it strictly mone

I never really buy that argument. I'd rather have a player for the whole year than just from the deadline on, that's where the value is. If we are in contention, I'm sure Rogers would pony up the money for a deadline move if we needed someone. Plus salary is pro-rated at the deadline, so there should be less money required. -

I don't see any reason not to sign one more BP arm, any of those guys have a decent shot at having a very productive year. It really must be money at this point which sort of pisses me off. -
