  1. Maybe he did have a "mentor" in the early days. Did anyone leave/retire just before theHapp trade?
  2. Just because they spent some games against poor competition in the minors doesn't mean they know how to play against more advanced players.
  3. Bautistas attempted steal and words after is what I'm referring to.
  4. Just because you can't measure the intangible doesn't mean it doesn't have value. I remember Sparky Anderson getting into Luis Leal's head and single handedly ruining his concentration. All because he found his weakness and exploited it with a six foot submarine sandwich. The batting order and the bullpen didn't mean a thing.
  5. I'm with you. I think of a manager as head coach, motivator, educator. Setting a lineup and bullpen management should be like 5% of what he brings.
  6. Few players come up fully formed so I disagree on that. See Lawrie for that.
  7. Then whose job is it to make sure the know how to play?
  8. Agree, Uggla is overpaid and no bat or defense left in the tank.
  9. Maybe they didn't want to use them but had to. I may be grasping here.
  10. Have to disagree with you on this, Spanky. The way players behave is a result of off the field actions. What I honestly see is that players don't have faith in the coaching/management. Bautistas actions are a reflection of that. You posted a while ago that the team sucks against pitchers they don't know or something like that. Why would that be? Either nobody preps them or they don't believe what they are told.
  11. Maybe everyone else was so burned out he had no other choice. I can't stand Gibbons but will give him the benefit of the doubt there.
  12. But the solution will not occur by saying no moves. Take off the handcuffs or fire him. Sitting there in handcuffs won't do.
  13. Walker: Dead Man Walking. He may not finish the month.
  14. Sometimes you lose but it was a great game anyways. This one was not enjoyable. 8 walks? I'm really tired of Morrow's s***. Sure there was some bad calls but that tends to happen when you're off.
  15. Wasn't Gibbons managing at double A? He could probably get a job down there. But nobody was or is looking for him.
  16. If we had a real manager and veteran pitching coach they would have been on this. When we broke camp I thought it was weird to say Dustin was ready and I'm no pitching coach. Turns out he wasn't ready. He could have gone on the dl and stretched it out more.
  17. Agreed he was sick and missed but he should have been left back to stretch it out.
  18. They screwed around by not giving him the innings in spring training or confirming in the offseason if he would start.
  19. Just heard Zaun on this subject. He doesn't think Stroman is ready and needs a full season. Also that the team has screwed around with McGowan this year.
  20. Stroman is not pitching a lot of innings per start either. Buerle seems to be the only efficient starter we have anywhere.
  21. McGowan will get dl, go to Florida and stretch it out. He would do what Happ refused.
  22. When the team gets unsure this is what happens. It's inevitable.
  23. Zaun just called out the team for handling of McGowan. Gotta agree.
  24. Also Alex Castellanos was waived. Never had much of a chance in the majors but great AAA numbers.
  25. I had to check the date on the original post date. This has only been stated a million times. By us constantly and by AA before he got shut down.
