    If shields has already cleared waivers, it's difficult to see a deal getting done now. If they weren't willing to get him for just money, I find it unlikely thye would part with the kind of prospects San Diego would want if San Diego was going to pay any of his salary.

    His arm is really his only positive defensive attribute. He doesn't take great routes, his range is geting smaller by the month and even his arm is hurting this year after that ridiculous attempt to throw out that runner at first. I've never thought of Bautista as an overal good defender. His reputation as a plus defender has never been backed up by the eye test or defensive metrics.

    Explaining the differnce in how bbref calculates WAR versus fangraphs would take a while, but the short answer for me is, any way if calculating value that has Kevin Pillar as the second most valuable Jays is probably flawed. That being said, he is having a very good defensive year, and Bautista is not even close to being this great defender the talking heads on TV try to convince people of evry game.

    Zaun went full derp on the Jays pregame. He compared Drew Hutchison to Shelby Miller and said he would take luck (as in Drew Hutchison with his run support) over skill any day of the week. Just.... what the ever living f***?

    Contrast with yesterday's ump though when you only had to throw it in the general vicinity of the opposite batters box and you can undestand why players especially can be critical.

    Just a cool story from the minor leagues today. Toledo Mudhens Mike Hessman(age 37) set the MILB record for HR by hitting his 433rd today. He did it in style with a grand slam. The home run broke a 432-homer tie Hessman had shared with Buzz Arlett, a star from the 1920s and '30s who played primarily for the Phillies' farm teams. And he does have 14 career major league homers from shirt stints with Detroit, Atlanta and the Mets.

    Looks to me like the Jays are sitting offspeed and trying to adjust to the fastball, leading to being late and getting popups. Looks like the twins are sitting fastball

    I'm on the fence. the major moves at the deadline are nice.... but when u are in the position where you have to overhaul a decent portion of your lineup in order to take a shot at the wildcard, it makes me think it probably won't work.

    Especially given the age of their roster. Would it really be that surprising to see Arod, Beltran and Tex go down at some point?

    Was being reported earlier as elbow issues. Might be bad. Nova also reported to be hurting.

    That's the one real problem. The gap from our 5th starters to Price is 2 games, but the ap from our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pitchers to Price isn't exactly small either. This is now a team with an ace, and 3s and 4s.

    AA doesnt operate that way. No GM can worry about his job when doing deals

    AA is putting hits nuts on the chopping block for sure. I'm okay with the deal. I typically wouldn't be in favour of this type of deal, but I'm not as high on Norris as most.
