    Gillick also knew he had players in house who could come very close to replacing what he had in McGriff and Fernandez with Olerud and Manny Lee. Lee was every bit as good defensively at SS but a step down with the bat, Olerud was initially a step down with the bat in 1991 and 1992 but turned the page nicely in 1993. I doubt that trade ever happens without Olerud and Lee being ready to step in

    This is misleading. While most states have a legal age of consent of 16, most of the also have the Romeo and Juliet laws that company this age that would only allow sexual activity if the two are close in age, usually within 2-4 years of the persons age. Utah, unsurprisingly, has the largest gap with a minimum consent age of 16 and would allow a 10 year gap before it would be considered in appropriate and be able to have charges filed.

    The last time the Yankees were under .500 at this point of a season was 1995. Jeter was about to be called up for the final time, Boone was in AA, decent chunk of their current roster hadn’t even been born yet…

    Nah he’s got more than 5 seasons of service time, he would have to consent to be optioned. I’d rather have him on the bench than Espinal.

    Francisco was actually a pretty average 3B defensively until he cratered. He was no butcher by any stretch, though he did have a terrible 2013 with the glove. He also never played in MLB again after 2014 since he couldn’t hit a breaking ball to save his life.

    This is true, but…Ohtani is pretty much going to set the bar at a certain number AAV, and then other guys who only play on one side of the ball will basically have no argument to ever surpass whatever that number is, until years from now when the luxury tax levels have gone up and economic factors are different. I’d be fairly surprised to see him get less than 60 million AAV when the high test tier pitchers make anywhere from 35-43 million and the top paid hitters get 30-40. That said, I don’t know how a team is going to want to try and set up a contract so that IF he ends up no longer being able to play one side of the ball, something would have to give. I can’t see any team wanting to pay him 60 million without any kind of downside protection on his arm blowing out in 2 years and be stuck with an OF/DH

    Run prevention is how this team is going to win right now at the end of the day. It's boring as f*** to watch, but ... what can ya do. Everyone knows BIggio blows at 3B, and they obviously think Davis isnt good enough to man the hot corner either or he'd be starting there over Espinal. THe only defensible way to get Schneider in the lineup against RHP right now is to give Whit a day off which would allow Schneider and Biggio to play 2b/LF, start him at 3rd knowing he's not good defensively there - or just play him over Biggio at 2B. I can understand the arguments both ways for Schneider vs Biggio at 2nd, but dont know enough about his D at 3B to make an informed opinion there so I have to believe the FO knows what they are doing there in not starting him at 3b.

    They clearly do not have him as a good enough 3B defensively or he would be.

    Yeah, It's entirely unfortunate that Chapman is down right also, which means the left side of the IF is a pool noodle fight. He's just the odd man out through no fault of his own. I'd be sorely tempted to play him at 3B over Espinal though. I suppose the only reason they aren't is because they know he's not good enough defensively.

    I never would have thought a guy with his power output isn't even 6 feet tall. He's listed at 5'11"

    It's far less about Kirk out of that trio as he is back up to 93 wRC+ and still providing excellent defense. The bigger culprit offensively would be Varsho at 76, though again providing top tier defense and baserunning.

    Would it surprise anyone to know that as of the completion of yesterdays games, the Jays have allowed the fewest runs in all of MLB at 482, and the pitching staff has the 3rd most strikeouts?

    Definitely one of the factors. Not so much for the highest end high schoolers but the mid-upper guys for sure.

    No, there's definitely something wrong with him this season. Even if all he really was was the 2022 version he would be still be fine. Guys who hit the ball as hard as he does as often as he does should have better results. A slight tweak to his mental approach and rediscovering that pulling the ball in the air isn't a bad thing would do wonders.
