  1. I'm not even sure when or why I posted that. I was bar hopping in Detroit after the Springsteen show and too drunk to type.
  2. Watched Bruce Springsteen in Detroit last night and now watching the Jays winning on opening day at a bar in Windsor. Life doesn't get much better.
  3. Some pop? He has just 34 home runs in over 600 minor league games. Best case scenario with Lukes is he has some BABIP luck and hits an empty .350 with whatever at-bats he gets. That no slight against him, but he doesn't offer much of anything with the stick.
  4. I'd take Pache over Lukes.
  5. He might even play some CF, considering they are starting Adam Duvall there.
  6. Anthony Bass xFIP Low Leverage: 3.50 Medium Leverage: 3.27 High Leverage: 3.20 A good example of why we should ignore anecdotal evidence from chowderheads like this one.
  7. It's strange that the article says our bullpen is better, but they project a roughly 25% drop in WAR from 3.0 to 2.3 For the Dodgers they project a masssive 60% drop in productivity from 8.6 to 3.4 WAR.
  8. The narrative that you're trying to create is that people who like the Blue Jays hate Toronto for some reason? Spanky had the same misguided attitude and it's not true. The fact that the majority of the Blue Jays support comes from outside of the city is not some kind of negative comment on Toronto. It just shows how unique the fanbase is and how the nation has adopted the team. Toronto reaps the benefits of outrageously high TV viewership and thousands of fans from out of province for each game. It should be seen as a positive. That's why the team makes such an effort to distance itself from the city and embrace it's national appeal in advertising, which is the complete opposite of what the Raptors do. Their slogans and advertisements fall flat and are laughed at elsewhere.
  9. Pop has options as well.
  10. It's been speculated that White would start on the IL for a couple of weeks now.
  11. I think Pop is a quality major league reliever, but I disagree with the decision to put Pearson in AAA.
  12. Interest in the Jays absolutely tanked in the early 2000s and the Canadian dollar was killing us. There were a lot of rumours and articles written about potentially losing the franchise, especially after the Expos left and the stands were looking like Tropicana Field for several years. I remember being fearful of losing the team, even into the 2010s when we were doing fairly well and still averaging under 20k fans. We went to a weekday game for my 16th birthday and there couldn't have been more than 4000 people there. It wasn't a good time for the franchise, but the TV revenues and a lot of extra help from MLB surely kept the team afloat. It was one of our darker periods, that's for sure.
  13. To clarify, I do think Toronto alone could support the team in it's current state, even if it would be as a Pirates/Royals type of thing, but the organization has been through some pretty rough patches where relocation was discussed. Gate revenue isn't what supports teams, it's TV deals and merchandise sales. Those relocation discussions would have been a lot more serious if 50% (or probably more) of revenues were not present.
  14. What jabs? I go to Toronto multiple times per year and love watching the Jays. I just don't deny the national flavour of the organization. First and foremost, it's Canada's team. The majority of support comes from outside of the region. It's really cool and unique. You should embrace it like the players and most fans have. It doesn't mean the city is a bad place to play. In fact, I don't think it would work anywhere else.
  15. The Jays just got more viewers for a Spring Training game than the Yankees averaged last year in the regular season. They are expected to average and astounding 1 million viewers per game this year. Do you truly think they are doing that without broad national support? Hurl can probably confirm this, but I expect that less than 20% of that is regional. I don't understand your viewpoint. I'm proud that the team has taken on a more national and less local identity. It's unique and the players have really embraced it. George Springer talks about how cool it is to play for a country and not just a city all of the time.
  16. In terms of people wearing Jays merchandise? Absolutely, yes. Probably in terms of TV viewership as well if the numbers are out there. The Jays wouldn't exist if it was just Toronto and the region. The team truly has a lot of national support in every province. Look at the support in Seattle and Minnesota, it's unprecedented.
  17. The Jays are truly Canada's team. They are more popular in other cities than they are in Toronto in a lot of cases.
  18. Chad Pinder released. Plays all over with a 114 career wRC+ against lefties. Lots of options out there, I hope we take the chance to add depth.
  19. Troy Glaus was about the same size as me 6'6, 220 and could pick it pretty good at third base. He even played a bit of shortstop.
  20. I've noticed the same. You think that we'll see a lot more pitching surprises than usual this year or that it will all balance out after some time?
  21. Good stretch at first base too.
  22. You aren't going to find many players with 4 full years of experience, including playoff at-bats, at this point in the season. What are your suggestions?
  23. Keston Hiura won't make the Brewers. I'm not sure I'd pay him 2 million, but if he gets released the he'd be a really nice fit. An experienced right handed bat that can PH for Belt or Kiermaier is exactly what we need for our last bench spit.
  24. A guy who has averaged 40 home runs over the last 2 seasons will hit 40 home runs? That's very bold.
