  1. Small samples can be significant if heavily skewed in one direction. I'm not saying this definitely is significant, but the fact that teams avoid it so much, while regularly bringing in pitchers from the AL to the NL speaks volumes in my eyes.
  2. Volquez came up with the Rangers, but this is just common sense. I'm not going to spend hours to to a massive study on it.
  3. Ricky Nolasco was the last one I can think of. There are exceptions, but the majority of times it doesn't go well no matter how you look at it.
  4. Thanks. So 10 years of signings and one moderate success to go with several disastrous failures. It's pretty safe to say that it's not a good idea to sign guys like Leake to big deals.
  5. After 8 consecutive years his ERA being lower, I think we can safely say that FIP doesn't properly evaluate R.A. Dickey. He's a little better than league average.
  6. A challenge for anyone. Name the last free agent multi-year deal given to a starting pitcher without American League experience that worked out.
  7. For one thing, the projection is lower than any FIP he's posted in his entire career. As well, this division scored 4.64 runs/game and his scored 4.11 runs/game. The pitcher makes up some of that gap, but not all of it. Use some common sense here for god sakes.
  8. Is 190 innings of a 4.5+ FIP worth anything at all to us?
  9. He just pitched a full year.
  10. Yeah, because 90.9 vs 90.7 is such a huge difference. You should be made aware that the average left hander throws 3 MPH softer than the average right hander. Anderson has had success in the AL with the same velocity and same peripherals so there's a lot less risk in that regard.
  11. I'd be very happy to get Latos on a 1 year deal.
  12. I'd be very happy to get Latos on a 1 year deal.
  13. Teams usually regret signing a pitcher for big dollars before they know if he can perform in the AL. The the only ones over 25 mil in the last 10 years I can find in MLBTR's transaction tracker: Ricky Nolasco Ryan Dempster Vicente Padilla It's so obvious that it's a stupid thing to do, that most teams avoid it like the plague.
  14. Who's the solid starter with no injury history that you get for that price? I'd rather take the chance on talent than bring in a mediocre guy, but that's more of a philosophical decision.
  15. I shudder at the thought of Leake tossing up sub 90 fastballs and not striking anyone out in the American League.
  16. I didn't mean a cheap one year deal, I meant like 3/39.
  17. It means that 80% of the parks in this division amplify home runs and he gives up very few flyballs. It's also not a stretch to say that injury history reduces cost for any pitcher.
  18. Perhaps not, but he's an excellent fit in this division and the cost should be low for his talent level.
  19. I'll take Brett Anderson over Leake or Chen without even factoring in the lower cost.
  20. Precisely. We really only need one good pitcher and some insurance for Sanchez and Osuna. There's room in the payroll for that without ruining our lineup.
  21. I don't even know where to start. We haven't had a decent 2B since 2009 and now you want to trade him and roll with Darwin f***ing Barney? Devon Travis was cruising to the Rookie of the Year before his injury. One problem hardly makes him injury prone yet.
  22. Sanchez is 23 years old and just pitched in 9 of 11 games without allowing an earned run. If you think this is his fault, you're sorely mistaken.
  23. Probably not a stretch or biased to say that Ventura is the least professional player in the game. Intentionally throwing at player's heads, yapping on the field, yapping off the field. People can say what they want about bat flips and strike zone complaints, but it's part of the game. The stuff Ventura does isn't.
  24. He's absolutely right about everything and was very genuine. I'm not sure how you don't like him.
  25. AA has hinted that he'll be back a couple of different times, but I'm not sure what kind of deal it would be. Stating the obvious, but I think a healthy Saunders is worthy of a roster spot. We just have to leave the decision up to the medical staff.
