  1. They probably got a really good deal on that advertising. I read that sphere thing is bleeding money so far
  2. My issues with CB are well documented and I don’t disagree. Would be a Jays kind of big move though, like Merrifield
  3. Debatable. Depends on the context. If you said Florida isn’t going to participate in any $200m diversity and inclusion programs bc it’s a far right state, I don’t think you’d get complaints. That’s the comparison here
  4. That’s very presumptuous, unless you know more detail. He could’ve genuinely been trying hard to build a stadium and if they didn’t play ball, that kind of thing might make sense where you have one foot in, and one foot out. Again, if they’re trying to get $300m in breaks over time, where they will generate 2x that for area businesses, the problem becomes all the voices saying “think of all the things we can give people so they don’t have to work with $300m. Make the evil billionaire pay it all”
  5. This is a practice of developers of all levels looking for tax breaks/incentives for what they’re going to bring to the city. Pro sports is obviously just a situation dealing with bigger numbers all around
  6. There’s nothing OT here about discussing them stashing away hundreds of millions for possible reparations. No money for bb stadium. Headed to Vegas
  7. It’s probably mostly true.

In terms of where a team would be without a player, CJ Stroud almost seems like a legit MVP candidate. Dude is ballin. I’ll have to tune into a Houston game.
  9. Yankees pull in the bucks. $280m in ticket rev, down a chunk from last year but still tops. That’s not even a teams main revenue source. Good thing George isn’t around as it’d be like $400m payroll every year
  10. Yeah I think it’s true of most sports deals that you don’t actually make any profit at all, but it’s about getting the eyes to your network to promote and carry all the other stuff. So you kind of have to look at it like what the tv deal would be worth if they didn’t have a network

Getting sick is for chicks. Multi vitamin and protein. Need to work them in.
  12. Looking at the backend isn’t the way to do it, you have to look at it the nerd way with WAR. Like Robinson Cano would be an example of a contract the aged terribly but he pretty much earned it all in 5 years. And he wasn’t even consistently the star they hoped. Seager will probably earn his contract in 5 years too. The years just help you spread out the money so you can work with the cap and build a team. In 6 years, the cap will probably be higher by the same amount of what the contract is. In 2018 in was $197m, now $233m. Salaries have remained stagnant compared to the other leagues because mlb teams just spread out years to manipulate the luxury tax. Players and owners seem content to do it that way.

Hmm.. interesting. Yeah I think in the US, it’s pretty well covered you can’t be charged in the normal act of a sport. So say a boxer dying, someone would need to hit him when the fight was over, he was down, etc.. seems like it would a tough case to try but the public pressure made it so there was no choice
  14. You could fill an AS team with guys we were 2nd on
  15. It he believes in himself and he isn’t getting the offers they thought, it may be a bad way to do it. He should be able to throw for teams next off-season.
  16. A lot of work I wouldn’t be getting paid for.
  17. My friend, I keep track of running arguments here. It’s like if “playoff roster” becomes relevant in a situation 3 months from now, I keep the receipts.
  18. Oh well that matters than for at least one player lol
  19. Because you dumbass, there’s more to running a business than W-L. People will suck TB’s knob because of W-L but say that SD did something s*****. SD clearly ran a better business model since 2017. Don’t let some recent press deter you from the fact that SD added $600m to their franchise value… at a much fast % rate than Tampa. Not just the years turning
  20. I read it was generally a pretty normal practice, but the timing of it looked real bad.
  21. Nope. Basic business strategy of overspending to generate growth. It worked in spades by all indicators. Meanwhile teams like Oakland and TB cry about their small market and do nothing to generate excitement but churn out prospects that aren’t going to sell any commercials or tickets.
  22. The Padres operate within a bottom-third television market, with a fan base nationally considered to be generally apathetic, but Preller sternly believed the locals would rally around his team if an ownership group properly invested in it. Before his passing, Preller saw that vision become a reality. Despite a disappointing, playoff-less finish, the Padres set a new attendance record in 2023, selling the second-most tickets in baseball and drawing more than 3 million fans for only the second time in their history. Record revenues came with it. Great businessman. Tampa had more success on the field, but he put a more intriguing product on the field and made his team worth hundreds of millions more than Tampa. Tv deal was a sour note but they were regrouping. Next man up will probably not carry on the vision
  23. Wow Padres owner died. Yikes now everything in question. It’s a market like TB, he made it what it is
  24. Stanton’s agent fired back saying people should think twice before signing with NYY. Not that it’d matter, but gotta defend your guy. Was a low class comment by Cashman.

Bills fire their OC. Not sure how long he’s been there. Pretty point blank statement though. “We’ve relieved him of his duties”.. as in fired, not play calling taken away Not even a follow up statement like “we’d like to thank him for all his contributions and wish him success”
