I read a little about it today. It’s what I thought, basically going back and forth with city on portions of funding. The Tampa city option was too expensive (as it’d have to be $1b type deal with retractable roof). So seems like they want to do two new stadiums. Prob not the worst thing for baseball. They’ll prob draw more with new ballpark in St. Pete

I don’t follow the NHL but the NBA, who was already facing a severe drop off to their #8 seeds, are pushing for more seeds and basically 2/3 league is in. It’s awful -
I think I mentioned it recently but really they just need to move their stadium to actual Tampa…and build a new stadium that’s conducive to a nice day at the ballpark. Not sure if they’ve been trying but city not kicking in or something

As Jim said, the IP isn’t really far off. It’s only unbelievable based on the IP they throw now. While Ryan was a unicorn, there were other guys in his era and right before like Gibson, Feller, Carlton, etc that it’s accepted they threw in the 90’s with nasty stuff. Really I think it’s much less about any kind of physical evolution in baseball, it’s just a matter of more kids being exposed to baseball and playing it as a sport and developing their skills.

I mean.. why not take Nolan Ryan as an example. It’s accepted he threw 100mph, isn’t it? He also turned in 300+ innings regularly early in his career. So that kind of disproves your “highly unlikely”

Uh. I don’t think anyone is going to take that as gospel. Maybe they’re more likely to be faster? In the NBA or NFL, sure. Also, remember there was no NBA or NFL to take away athletes. It’s not a sound argument. You’re just basing on principle really.

Yeah it’s pretty futile- but I just think Mickey Mantle finds his way to the top of the pack if he comes up as a kid in this era. So don’t think you can discount their talent. There’s just no way no compare it

Bonds you kind of have to break up into 2 players. I think Player 1 Bonds (until 2000) is probably comparable to Trout- Player 2 isn’t going to be something you can compare to

Baseball a little different than football and basketball in that Babe Ruth is just as physically capable to swing a bat as any player today. But no doubt you can’t just expect him to hit new era of pitching out of a time machine. All you can do is really compare talent wise relative to the era they’re in. So wRC+ is best you can do

I went to two Bluejay games, did some other cool stuff with my son, went to see my bro in Daytona.. but if someone asked me the highlight, it’s those pancakes. May look too sweet but it’s just the perfect combo of pancake and sweet. IHOP is also just the perfect ratio of pancake. Not too fluffy or heavy. Just right. -
