  1. I’d ship Danny’s ass out for Cobb. I don’t think they’ve totally given up on Bart. Maybe after this year. So no go for now
  2. You can almost think of a startup approach, like Uber or whatever that set out losing with the hope of building a brand that’s eventually profitable. It’s a legit business strategy Especially with these these tv deals. Whoever has a contact coming up in the next 5 years is licking their lips
  3. No mate. That’s what I was explaining. You can put them into boxes but there’s different ways teams are run More than just Cohen are ok operating in the “red”.. which it seems is very complex with sports teams
  4. Aren’t the Giants every other year, or that’s just an urban myth? They’ll be good somehow if so
  5. Give your head a shake. That $20m is going to sit in the bank. Whatever they were doing with development is what they’ll continue doing. Anyways, it seems they’re in on the big names.
  6. What’s hard to decipher there? Didn’t you pass some kind of complex exam? When if not a playoff team, why not use up an extra $20-30 million or something to the payroll if it can win you more games and put a better product on the field
  7. I just explained to you. Even if you’re not a playoff team, why not still be competitive at least.
  8. You guys are just so used to Bluejays being like, “we aren’t making the playoffs in all likelihood, so why spend anything” First Round positioning really hasn’t meant much for them
  9. Well I guess there was some wisdom in completely tanking to pick 1 or 2
  10. There’s not really much motivation at all to tank in mlb. #12 probably has probably gotten similar historical value to #5. Why put a terrible team on the field and risk losing more casuals and having to try to win them back later on. Again, s***** teams also are going to take a hit in franchise value. Never really got the PIT/FL model other than basically the owner was running it purely to put money in their pocket
  11. If the Jays suddenly decided they were less worried about the bottom line and ok’d a $300m payroll, I think you’d see things would change a little. GMs of any business are going to operate according to their budget
  12. Of course buying FA isn’t going to win anything on its own. I don’t think anyone is suggesting if you have a $300m payroll that you don’t need to internally develop player…and retain the ones you have.. The 10 year contracts you’re pointing out that were bad, and most of other ones, are still getting signed. The market has been established. I get being a purist and turning your nose to that. It’s like a movie snob and then these Marvel movies come along
  13. If the SD players don’t work out over the next 3-4 years, yes you might go into a retooling instead of just buying more and more.. but then when the base is there, Round 2
  14. Listen, there’s no debate money doesn’t always buy you a good team. But like what good prospects did Detroit trade that are very regrettable? What damage was done trying? What happened was they made all the wrong moves and wasted time. If some of these prospects work out for them, I’m sure they’ll be spending again. They blew a nut and will be ready to go when it’s time I’m sure
  15. It comes down to a team like the Jays wants to run it as a business. Other owners just treat it as a trophy asset. Like do you want to go to the yacht club is you’re a mega billionaire and have your snooty friends troll you that the Padres suck
  16. Owners have seen what, 400%-500% increase in franchise value the last 10 years. The good teams more. Just because generating excitement for the Jays didn’t work because ownership was only willing to dip their toe in the water one year, doesn’t mean you should begrudge a franchise like SD, who has probably greatly increased the value of the team with the moves they’ve made
  17. As I said the other day, what can change is ownership. We saw it in NY and Bos.
  18. You need to think a little deeper than this though. The owners seem very committed. Sure, if the teams suck and fade away, and playoffs are no longer sustainable, you would retool or rebuild. But there’s no harm in trying because whenever they’re ready to roll, the money will be there. Dead weight isn’t going to stop anything. To a team like the Jays, what’s on the books can dictate everything. There’s little to lose in going for it if you’re willing to take on the financial risk. They’re not dumb bro.
  19. Bookmarked this bitch
  20. No they did not. Agreed

He’s a B QB, but still pretty crazy he’s that at 45. f*** Gisele. Can’t blame the guy for not wanting to be 70 and regret that he had a couple good years left

I was hoping to Bucs would start clicking at the season went on. Isn’t happening SB team though. SF D is legit
  23. KK is definitely good for subbing in as late inning replacement. Not many that will argue that. Definitely an improvement from Tapa and Zimmer, so there’s that
  24. It’d have to a very rare chance that he can, while Springer can’t. You’re crossing lanes And there’s a difference in likelihoods from a game saving catch developing vs 4-5ABs/game
  25. If they get Conforto (if he’s not dead) it could be better
