    I don't agree A 50 FV prospect is worth something like $25M to $30M in NPV Keller is owed 17, 18, 21 over the next 3 years His 2026 and 2027 ZiPS are for 2.0 and 1.7 WAR; assume 1.4 for 2028 That's 5.1 WAR across 3 years for $56M which is about $11M per win I don't think he's worth $30M in surplus value on that contract. His contract might actually be a fair free agent deal right now. Consider what guys like Kikuchi and Pivetta and Flaherty just got. He's worth a premium that is equal to whatever it is worth this year to help with a playoff race + his surplus value remaining in 2025. I'm not willing to burn Nimmala for this. I would burn certain other top 10 Jays prospects but probably not a top 100 mlb type. I mean he's a perfectly cromulent replacement for Bassitt for 2026 on but that's not the priority here at the deadline. He doesn't move the "win the World Series" needle a whole lot does he? This is a RHP with a 95 Stuff+.

    it's okay he will suffer a back injury at 30 years old which will change the natural tilt on his swing which will unlock his 50 HR power and HOF candidacy nobody will care about his 100 career TOOTBLANs when he gets the call to the hall

    Vlad went a couple of months without any real TOOTBLANs but in the last couple of weeks he has done this blunder + multiple dumb steal attempts. Sigh.

    Not watching but it seems like they are doing what they need to do against Houser. Good approach, getting guys on base. The horrendous bottom 5 produced a run!

    Since May 26th, Toronto is: #1 in MLB in hitter fWAR #1 in MLB in defensive value by a lot #1 in MLB in wRC+ and team wOBA #1 in MLB in lowest K rate and it's not even close. An absurd 14.9%. #2 in MLB in runs scored (221, vs 222 for TB and 208 for #3 LAD) +48 in run differential The pitching staff has been mediocre in that stretch.

    Sometimes stuff like this is just more evident in baseball because the data exists. Who is to say that there aren't tangible but unmeasured differences in hockey pucks year to year and it does influence scoring a bit? I remember deflate gate in the NFL. What if the basketballs have grippier dimples in certain seasons? Baseball will also always be an inconsistent sport because of the irregular park dimensions and the fact that it is played outside. I guess the NFL is played outside too. Are there park adjustments in the NFL for kickers and quarterbacks? Do spirals spiral worse in Denver?

    right i think what they do is... xStats are based on last year's averages/outcomes until some point mid-summer when they are re-scaled to the current season what you can see in the year to date gap is the drag on the ball being higher this year + maybe some season effects that we see every year since the ball flies better when it gets hotter

    It's possible. xStats can be out of balance until they get a mid-season adjustment. I think I heard on Rates & Barrels a few weeks ago that xSLG in 2025 was .030 too high league-wide.

    I believe in Lukes' ability to make contact and hit for a modicum of power. I believe in his ability to take a walk. His below average speed limits any real upside. Short swing with below average bat speed. Some mental feel for when to try and turn on a pitch even though there is little raw power. Two comps are Nolan Schanuel and Alex Verdugo. You can see from Verdugo in recent years how quickly this profile can go from say a 1.5 WAR player to a replacement level guy. Pretty useful bench or platoon player for the time being though! I wonder if Lukes should start getting 1B work so Clement isn't the backup there anymore. Kind of a waste of Clement's defensive skills for him to ever be at 1B.
