Agree 100%. Gibby doesn't possess the ability to realize that there might be a possibility that Travis just doesn't feel comfortable hitting lead off. I know it shouldn't make a difference, but some players are funny that way.

I'm sure if pressed, he could probably stay back and massage a ball the other way. As a professional, when this type of situation presents itself (which isn't that often), a player has to be smart. These types of qualities are diminishing as players like Smoak are playing for future contracts.

I don't understand the mentality with most players nowadays. Smoak has to know that his job in that AB was to get the tying run to the plate. What f***ing pisses me off even more is that the defence is in a shift, so they're basically giving Smoak the opportunity to get on by just putting the ball in play towards third base. Of course he swings away like he's the tying run and grounds out weakly into the shift. Players are dumb and selfish.

What? Based on their performances to date, i'd say that is somewhat accurate. Goins' defense doesn't match anywhere near a -1.8 def WAR so far.

Hendricks is way more effective in a middle relief role. I think i have enough confidence in him to use him in a high leverage, seventh inning situation.
