    Wainwright is gone for the year and is turning 34 this year. Garcia, or Lackey does not return EE. The only other viable option would be Lynn plus a back end BP arm for EE. Lynn is has more short term value than Martinez. If the Cards are in a place where they feel they can win a WS once or twice with a power threat like EE, they may be willing to part with Martinez. The fact that they are loaded with young pitching may make them exchange that currency for a cheap proven power bat for a year and a half.

    You also have to consider the protection EE will provide in the line up. 35 HR types are respected and feared, regardless of what their wRC looks like. The Cardinals desperately need power in their line up.

    Yeah but who knows, AA pulled off way more unlikely scenarios before. Throwing Estrada in the mix may change things. Estrada can help them in late August and September, not to mention being a good long man in the post season.

    EE's power is there and is performing to expectations. Are you referring to his. 239 batting average?

    EE is a legit 30-40 HR first baseman which will cost them very little for 1.5 years. That type of value doesn't grow on trees either. Acquiring EE for a pitcher who isn't pitching this post season anyways is inviting. EE could be the icing on back to back WS titles.

    Because adding a legit power threat to their line up for a year and a half anchored by their pitching would be ideal. If Martinez's innings will be capped let's say by the third week in August, there's a good chance we can get innings out Stroman or Hoffman to close out the year. Our pitching can be built around Stroman, Martinez and Hoffman.

    Yeah but trading top prospects for a 33 year old while stuck with that contract would be dumb. I'd rather trade EE to the Cardinals for Carlos Martinez. Maybe add Estrada and get back one of their back end relievers also. The Cardinals can absorb the pitching, since they have a ton, and can use 1.5 years of a team friendly contract in EE. They need power at first base as Reynolds and the other fodder isn't doing it. The Cardinals would love a 30 HR type at 1B. Would you do it? What a young controllable staff we could have for the next 4-5 years while Martinez also gives us the immediate help for this year. We won't miss EE.     Whatever AA does, just please don't get sucked in for Shields. The "Mr AL EAST DRAGON SLAYER" pitcher is gone. Taking on a $19mil per for the next 3.5 years with numbers you can get out of one of our younger pitchers, would spell disaster. His numbers in the NL combined with pitching at Petco would spell Drew Hutchison type numbers here. Pass.

    There wasn't anybody else. That call was so bad, as hitters tend to get a little more aggressive with the runner moving. Although it's not generally a bad call, in this case with who was running and who was behind the plate with a K type pitcher made it a bad judgement play.

    In all fairness the umps have been more emphatic than ever before. Check out the third base umps out call on Martin. He f***ing yelled at him while making the out call. It's not right, it's not about them.
