Things did go wrong though too
- big free agent signing Springer misses most of the year
- Gurriel takes a big step back
- Jansen sucks and injured most of the year
- Biggio sucks and injured most of the year
- Kirk injured for a good chunk of season
- top pitching prospect Pearson sucks/injured/is a complete non-factor
- Bullpen takes a bunch of hits/injuries/steps backwards, Romano the only reliable arm
- Ryu takes a bit of a step back from 2020
Ah, so this will be his last game of the season I suspect.
This scenario seems extremely similar to the first time he came back, played 3 games against the Braves, then went back on the DL.
Its like we had the Redsox 2013 offseason... except no playoffs for us let alone a f***ing WS title.
This team was absolutely sunk by a bad bullpen and bad management. Also offense all going cold during a very important stretch.
Baseball can truly suck sometimes
I mean, at the end of the day it’s baseball and it happens all the time. But at this point in the season with favorable matchups like Ryu vs Akin, I agree you cannot lose those games.
I’d say if Springer is out again there’s no way they hit 90 wins. If he’s still ok and in the lineup then MAYBE, but a lot of things have to break right with the bullpen.
Crazy that he went from being a great prospect and having a decent sophomore season to just losing it completely... kinda reminds me of Jason Heyward with less tools.
