    Thanks for figuring out the timeline. Yeah I’d guess Jays probably don’t get Chapman or Kikuchi if Verlander signed. Wonder what they would have gone with… Vlad at 3rd? Groshans? Biggio until Moreno takes over 3rd? I think we can all agree Chapman has been a great rock at 3B for us after the uncertainty in 2021

    Day-to-day but apparently Otto Lopez is at the dome taking fielding practice and BP… Maybe they roster him for a few days while Bo and Chapman are day-to-day, or maybe they think a DL stint is coming

    Yeah and that would have worked out spectacularly. Ah well. I still think Kikuchi can turn it around and give us similar production to what Matz gave us last year. Extra 12.5 million to Verlander probably means they don’t trade for Chapman, or have less flexibility at the trade deadline. Who knows

    Obviously would have meant not signing one of Kikuchi/Gausman, not sure which.

    The Jays were very close to signing Verlander apparently. "As negotiations started going, they kind of fell off. Some other teams really started to show a lot of interest. I would say that the leader was probably Toronto. They were great. And I talked to George (Springer, his former Astros teammate now with the Blue Jays) a bunch. They were very proactive to the point that when I signed with Houston, I made sure to let them know that I appreciated it all. Ultimately, when it came down to it, Houston had the same offer. It was all kind of ballpark between them and Toronto, and New York (Yankees) was kind of always just a step behind."

    No, as far as I know if the pick isn’t signed they can’t use that money and they lose that slot amount from their overall draft pool. This prevents punting picks in order to sign someone overslot.
