  1. No var in Java brah.
  2. double weightInPounds = Double.MaxValue; double handsomeFactor = Double.MinValue; I******* njh = new E*******(weightInPounds, handsomeFactor); var machine = new KillingMachine(); machine.Kill(njh);
  3. Maybe it was FD to get to the list of players. Hmm. Either way, wrote that code quite a while ago and if they modified permissions on it, that wouldn't shock me as it's a thoroughly public set of data.
  4. FanDuel and DraftKings really need to expose a public API to get this stuff. Really not sure why they don't.
  5. For automatically downloading prices from DK and FanDuel (which need you to authenticate before you can gain access), I'd suggest using Selenium to build the active scraper. It has Java and .Net flavours.
  6. I'd have more confidence in Stroman throwing from a chair.
  7. Someone needs to tell Marcus that striking guys out does not lead to higher pitch counts.

    Paying a RB an egregious amount of $ is not something to be excited about. Being a Vikings fan, I know this.
  9. I highly doubt most "systems" know how to actually combine those adjustments properly. I also very much doubt any of them know anything about anything past that basic list. Those who can't bet, tout.
  10. Are you writing code to do this? Or Excel? The automation is pretty easy in Python (Beautiful Soup) or .Net (HtmlAgility) . I'm sure Java has reasonable equivalents.
  11. Steps to a basic but probably profitable baseball model (H2H and 50-50s): 1) Average Zips and Steamer ROS projections (weight as you see fit) 2) Scale projections down to daily amounts (per 4.5 PAs or whatever) 3) Adjust for Opponent pitcher/lineup/defense 4) Park Adjust 5) Adjust for splits (Handedness and GB/FB being the two most important) 6) Input daily projections and prices into optimization engine which picks the lineup for you 7) Profit
  12. I have no idea about anything basketball related but FanDuel gave me entry into a freeroll tonight. Advice please peeps. This is my n00b lineup. 13. Yea, I was more referring to the mobile apps. FanDuel's lag in live scoring is pretty terrible across clients.
  14. 4 basic rules: 1) Pick a cheap goalie. Goalie true talent levels are really scrunched together (ev sv% takes like 3 full seasons to stabilize). Also, cheap goalies are also often those who project to face the most shots which you will reap the benefit of. 2) Pick on bad opponents with your skaters. 3) Ignore perceived hot streaks. 4) Adjust the number of skaters per team you have based on the game type you're in. Stacking players is the easiest way to tune your lineup's variance. 50-50s you don't want too many players on the same team. Tourneys you should almost never field a lineup with skaters for more than 2 teams. Random comment: DraftKings' software is far superior and if you're only going to play on one platform, I would suggest it over FanDuel. Volumes on the two sites are similar for NHL.

    Does Yandle even have net +ve asset value given his cap hit? Probably a bit I guess. Nice deal for The Old Jets though.
  16. I don't think the discrepancy in asset value is anywhere near that large

    Can we really give "credit" for Corsi and Fenwick though? Those name were always dumb. It would be like claiming I invented addition. 2 nox 2 = 4 But I agree with what I think is your general point: there was waaaaaay too much SAP patting themselves on the back in that press conference. And for the love of god, could a they not have gotten a couple more competent presenters? You're a company with multi-billion quarterly revenue. It was hard to listen to.

    NHL just got officially statsier. In related news, SAP is bad technology.

    I find this response fair and reasonable.
  21. I guess one thing I should clarify is that when I say completely useless at the MLB level I mean the act of having a scout physically sit in the stands and write things down. There's nothing they're going to pick up there that you can't with all the video feeds in an MLB game. That said, even the video scouting stuff doesn't add alot but in some obvious cases it can (not going to trade full value for someone at the deadline who is clearly nursing some sort of injury). But what Boxy says basically holds. I don't have the data on either side but I'd guess preseason 2009 algorithmic projections would have been higher on Bautista than an aggregation of scouts. He hit .235 in 2008! Scrub! (And yes, scouts scouting the numbers is one of the biggest problems with that whole process).
