Notes:
Braves::
Chris Johnson leads the Braves in batting average with a .346 mark and 15 multi hit games, 6 of them with were 3+ hits. He has a 8 game hitting streak when starting, and has a good .482 average (14-29) during that time.
Kris Medlen has a great home ERA of 2.08, but his record at home (0-2) and his record in general (1-5) is thanks to one of the worst run support in baseball for the righty, as the Braves are averaging 2.59 runs per 9 innings when he's on the mound.
The Braves have to keep shuffling the lineup around now that their back in the NL format. Gattis has been superb, having the club lead in RBIs (32). The problem for the rookie, is that his positions are all taken over by stars, so it's hard to find places for the catcher/outfielder. With McCann back and smacking the ball hard, catcher is out of the question. The outfield has 3 start names, the Upton brothers and Heyward so its hard to put him there, even though B.J. Upton is struggling. I'm sure Gattis would be even happy to take the duties at first, but guess what? Freddy Freeman is doing is a darn good job there.
Jays:
Jose Bautista has been on fire in May! The Jays' franchise player (yes I said it) was hitting an atrocious .195 average in April with injuries and lack of patience at the plate. But in May it's a different story as the slugging right fielder has hit .382 (34 for 89) this month pushing his batting average to .299! With a .421 wOBA and 166 wRC+, along with a 0.995 OPS and a rising 16% BB rate, there's not much you could have asked more from him on a bounce back season!
Jose Bautista and Encarnacion hope to have good games today as Bautista's hot, hitting .515 (17-33!) with three homers and 7 ribbies over the last 8 games. Encarnacion has a .345 average with 19 RBIs over his past 14 games.
Brett Lawrie's has a trip to the 15 day DL. After Weber got optioned to AAA and Ramon Ortiz DFA'd, the Jays call up 3 pitchers Todd Redmond, Neil Wagner, and Juan Perez leaving the Jays with another day of a short bench featuring DeRosa, Blanco, and Gose
