No Important Notes Today.
Jays:
Marcus Stroman will make his first major league start. The 23-year-old was hit hard in his last two relief appearances earlier this month before being sent down, giving up nine runs and 11 hits in three innings. Stroman lost both his starts with Buffalo after being demoted, giving up seven runs and 10 hits in nine innings.
Edwin Encarnacion is tied with Mickey Mantle for the most home runs in May by an American League player with 16. Encarnacion went hitless in two at-bats, but he did finish with three walks on Friday. He'll have Saturday's game to try and match Barry Bonds for the all-time Major League record for homers in May at 17.
The Blue Jays stranded a season-high 14 runners in their loss to the Royals on Friday.
Royals:
Brooks made his major league debut in relief against Detroit on May 3, giving up six runs - all in his second inning of work - in a 9-2 defeat. After being sent back to the Storm Chasers, the right-hander went 4-0 in as many starts with a 2.05 ERA. He struck out only 16 in 26.1 innings.
Gordon has gone 11/30 during an eight-game hitting streak, and Cain has raised his average 30 points to .339 in his last nine games by going 15/37 (.405). And after going 3/4 on Friday, Billy Butler is now 5-for-9 in this series.
Reliever Wade Davis, after two perfect innings in Thursday night's victory over the Blue Jays, has retired 17 consecutive batters. He also has 42 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings for a nine-inning ratio of 15.53, best among American League relievers.
