  1. I just read he was actually recently DFA'd by the cubbies so I doubt we're left with anything more than the league minimum, he was gone already and we gave them something
  2. So a veteran catcher who was 2 years removed from a 2 WAR season, yells at his pitching staff, then we get him on a free essentially. I'll take it lol How much salary are we taking on though? He's owed $14M this season, I hope we're getting significant $
  3. Hence why Donaldson himself plays a big role here. If he's not committed to the team long term here then it's in our best interest to trade him for the future. In short I don't want another EE/Bautista situation.
  4. Atkins did an interview with Jamie Campbell just this homestand...
  5. It's a great surprise. I am so pleased we have Shapiro and Atkins steering this ship. AA took us to a great point, but they will take us further!
  6. It's up to Donaldson as in no one is gonna put a gun to his head and force him to sign him and he hasn't been here long enough to know if he prefers to stay with us and is willing to negotiate something. For all we know we could pay him a mega contract but he'd rather go someplace sunnier or closer to family. Wasn't that the reason Grenkie turned down Milwaukee for LA a few years ago? Also I said Donaldson staying is key for the team to remain competitive and relevant for the next couple of years or not, it's not easy to replace 6-7 WAR with the rebuilding farm system, Edwin gone and Bautista past his time. Like it or not, the team needs a few strong personalities that are likeable to keep the team relevant within the city. No one pays to watch DeRozan and Lowry either, the young fans resonate with them. Think of it as part of marketing the team.
  7. I was like the many of you who railed on the FO for giving Smoak an extension. While I still think it was still a little early to offer that extension, it was for peas and that belief instilled by the FO so early in a typical down year, can go a long way for his success and loyalty to the team. Congrats to Smoak!
  8. The Mets rose and fell with the same timeline as us lol
  9. Would you look at that. Regardless if he pans out or not is a moot point, I love small little tweaks like these from the FO. They're trying to squeeze as much out of anything as possible lol
  10. It's up to Donaldson and Ownership IMO. Toronto has enough bank to keep him around at a reasonable (or slightly above reasonable) price. But the decision/extension needs to be made by early off-season this year. If he doesn't wanna stick around or if ownership doesn't want to put that much bank in him then we trade him before opening day next season - regardless if its in the division or not. He's FA in 2018 off-season paired with the fact that we probably won't be competitive enough that year, it won't matter if he rakes in Boston or New York. I personally hope he stays, I like him and this team needs to remain relevant through a "retooling" process, so even if the deal might look bad in year 5 or 6, it's the price to pay to prevent the Dome from being empty like the ~10 years before the 2015 run.
  11. Happy Canada Day everyone!
  12. Well f*** way to make up for the passed ball
  13. Those were the days
  14. He was bound to correct back to his norm offensively, but when will we see a correction in his defense? Don't get me wrong, he's still great, but he's not at the Superman levels he was at the past 2 seasons - some routes he's taken this year are mind boggling
  15. Pompey had a leg injury this past week I think
