  1. why you surprised? drugs and high school go hand in hand
  2. My high school football teammates (15/16 yrs old some of them) were taking steroids in the early 80's. Would not surprise me if professional athletes, including in baseball, have been taking performance enhancing drugs of some type for 100 years.
  3. No Satchel Paige = Fail
  4. It's ok if you are incapable of deducing meaning
  5. Agreed. Direct your post to Spanky who called Bonds GOAT and started this.
  6. if ichiro = toritani I can live with this
  7. There were fewer teams in Ruth's day, which somewhat offsets the exclusion of the large group of talent you refer to. Also, in Ruth's day pitchers were left in much longer, meaning batters saw the same pitcher more often. As Havok says, there is no way to fairly compare players from different era, hence no way to determine GOAT.
  8. No. Read it again. Ruth had almost twice as many triples as Bonds in less AB. Only means that Ruth was no slouch, speed wise. Of course Bonds >>> Ruth speed. However, before Ruth bloated in the latter half of his career, he was quite the athlete. An ace pitcher and home run king. Having more triples then Bonds has more to do with the cavernous parks of Ruth's day, which incidentally depressed his home run totals. If Ruth played in parks of today's (Bonds era) size, he would have many many more HR. Also, Ruth did play in exhibitions against Negro League teams and hit .400 in those games.
  9. Agreed, ugly ATM. Stroman gonna lose a bunch of wins due to the 'pen. He gonna feel like Stieb.
  10. Then the GOAT can never be assigned. Only 'best of his generation'. Ruth is to baseball what Gretzky is to hockey.
  11. Nah, its still Ruth. The gap between Ruth and other players of his generation is larger than for Bonds and his. One season Ruth hit more home runs than any other team. Ruth was a pitcher his first 5 seasons, winning more than 20 games twice. Put him in the field for those 5 years instead, and he's still got the career HR record. Ruth also had speed, almost twice as many career triples as Bonds, in fewer ABs. Ruth career OBP .474 > Bonds .444 Ruth was a great pitcher, great hitter, and was fueled by hot dogs and bootleg whisky, not 'roids.
  12. How, exactly? Wouldn't make a difference IMO
  13. http://ahwilkensoakville.hibid.com/lot/18135450/1959-signed-nationaland-american-all-star-baseballs?tab=0&cpage=4 http://ahwilkensoakville.hibid.com/lot/18135449/all-time-detroit-tigers-signed-baseball-and-program http://ahwilkensoakville.hibid.com/lot/18135452/mikey-mantle-signed-baseball Some nice pieces if you are into memorabilia
  14. The 6th and 7th starters on average start 20 games. That's not an insignificant amount. Jays need 1 or 2 reasonable depth starters in Buffalo. Norris is ideal as one of them. I would prefer Sanchez to be the other but suspect he will be in the bullpen and Hendriks will be the other Buffalo depth starter.
  15. Did I say anything about constraining oneself? I listed priorities and most efficient areas to improve roster. A 1 win upgrade at RP would be more efficiently added than a 1 win upgrade at RF But go ahead and be the contrarian you are, every post you made is to dispute someone else's
  16. Smoak OBP with home park Safeco has been almost identical to Rasmus OBP with home park RC Good chance Smoak moving to RC > Rasmus at the plate We won't miss Rasmus defence or baserunning with Pompey in CF Colby not coming back, and we don't need him anyway
  17. No s***, Sherlock And most efficient areas to add wins based on current roster: RP SP 2B 1B/DH
  18. the adjustment made mid season last seems to have improved his control though regardless, all indications are that Sanchez is the current favourite for 5th starter, which is madness he needs to be in buffalo improving his craft and ready to fill in when required
  19. my biggest issue with the Marlins/Mets trades is the Jays went from one of the youngest to the one of the oldest teams in the majors also was a very inefficient addition of wins would rather the Jays reap the benefits of a young team and one of the best farms in baseball, instead of taking the Phillies route
  20. It kinda makes sense for MLB to use TV revenue to balance inequities such as this, no?
  21. Frank Catalanotto played 4 seasons for the Jays, some as the primary LF, some in a platoon role OBP > .350 during that time
  22. Delete Desclafani and add an ace (Price?) with the money not being paid to MB and Reyes
