I think it's because this ownership group was so stingy with the payroll until just this past off-season. The current payroll is already set to go up an additional $15M just next season. The payroll that was added this year hasn't exactly worked out, obviously. To assume that Rogers would be so willing to add even more money is ludicrous. Could they? Yes. Will they? I don't know, and neither does anyone else.
