  1. Drew's name always comes up in a negative light wrt his play. I'd call that underrated.
  2. Colby will never be a true Cardinal.
  3. Adam Jones = Overrated Colby Rasmus = JD Drew (ie. underrated)

Getting Bobby Ryan is a good thing for them.

Did you find any remains of the Leafs management/coaches from those fireworks?
  7. Congrats on the three. Well deserved! Now, time to delegate for Delabar! (weak motto, I know, but just vote for Delabar!)

Someone who hits and facepunches a lot, regardless of how talented the player is.

Ah okay. He's not very good in the defensive zone, slightly above-average in the faceoff dot (though, that's not very significant in the grand scheme of things), not a good passer (and turns the puck over a lot), and doesn't put many shots on net.

I was actually confused why you were critiquing Corsi wrt Clarkson, since Clarkson actually has good numbers based on these metrics. I wasn't criticizing the player as much as the contract he got. 7 years is way too long for a player of his type, especially at his age.

That can be accounted for somewhat using WOWY (with-or-without-you) stats, like this site does.

I don't think he has a Euro bias. I think he's just a plain old idiot.

These three essentially mean the same thing: One player is stronger and more physical than the other. Clarkson is probably more physical than Grabovski (and stronger), but Grabovski's strength is heavily underrated by most fans and the MSM it's ridiculous. These two can be related. If one is good at backchecking, then he is likely just as good at forechecking. Fair enough. You can say the same regarding a player's play on the PP. I tried to account for this before using puck possession stats, but it was always a mess so I see your point here. I think shot quality (and luck) plays a greater role on special teams than at even strength. That can be reflected in a player's Corsi. Corsi was highly correlated to zone time between the 2000-2002 seasons (R=0.90). This can be reflected in shot distance/location, which is also tracked using a stat called Delta. Actually, a far more significant aspect you missed completely that puck possession metrics currently don't account for is neutral zone play, which its tracking is currently in its infancy.

Derek Roy signs with the Blues for 1 year, $4 M. I'd rather have him than Bozo the Clown.

You respect Doug MacLean? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Btw, the SN panel tends to lack any clue how to run a hockey team. "HE PUNCHES FACES HE IS MOTIVATING THE TEAM! GIVES HIM ALL THE MONEYS!" is not solid analysis.

Grabovski can weave through opponents despite his size, take hits without much of a problem, and hold on to the puck like crazy in the offensive zone while limiting turnovers. If you don't see that as valuable, then you don't actually watch hockey. He's a tough SOB. Clarkson's style is different from Grabovski's, and different style doesn't mean one player is worse than the other, but that doesn't mean he's more valuable than Grabovski.

Not really. Since the 08-09 season (since there is only a 2 month difference in age between them, age isn't a major factor): Clarkson: 0.25 GPG (0.907 G/60 at EV adjusted for ZS), 0.605 A/60 (0.259 First A/60), 0.43 PPG (1.51 P/60 at EV adjusted for ZS), 17.602 iCorsi/60 after ZS adjustment Grabovski: 0.27 GPG (0.907 G/60 at EV adjusted for ZS), 1.210 A/60 (0.870 First A/60), 0.61 PPG (2.12 P/60 at EV adjusted for ZS), 16.634 iCorsi/60 after ZS adjustment While Clarkson has slightly better puck possession numbers with a poorer SH% than Grabovski, the two posted the same goal rate and Grabovski was far and away better at passing the puck to his teammates than Clarkson. Before you ask about teammates, during that time-span, the majority of Clarkson's time was with Elias and Zubrus/Zajac (very close in TOI) while Grabovski's time was with Kulemin and MacArthur. When you consider that Clarkson's contract is only $250 K cheaper than Grabbo's was, there is no way you can say that Clarkson is paid exactly how he should be while also saying that Grabovski was overpaid. Also, technically, the Leafs replaced Grabovski with Bozak, who is a far inferior player relative to Grabovski it's not even f***ing close. I didn't want them to go after Weiss, either (reminds me too much of Tim Connolly), and I would have been fine with Clarkson at a slightly cheaper and much shorter contract. 7 years for someone like Clarkson is WAY too long.
