I'm assuming payroll remains about the same. A winner could change that however.

I touched on this in another thread yesterday. It frees up substantial money, however, Reyes alone will see a $6M increase, and a few others see smaller increases not counting the arb eligible guys. It still leaves substantial money, however if we want Cabrera back which I am assuming management will, he is going to require a sizeable increase, probably $15M per. Plus I'm betting AA resigns Janssen as well, especially since I can't envision him exercising Santos option unless he comes back soon and dominates the rest of the season. After that there isn't going to be that much left to address other holes unless AA gets creative with the contracts. The following two seasons will continue to see more payroll come off the books, so he may end up signing some back loaded contracts.

Yeah but 'where they ain't' often times is where the best fielding position would be for a specific batter, however, due to holding on runners, positioning for a DP, etc, it sometimes can put a batter in a better position to succeed.

Haven't heard anything about him, wouldn't be surprised if he is out all year.

I doubt it. If he is, it won't be for much and if that's the case then might as well keep him for the stretch run.

Santos is another one who should be gone. I doubt they touch that option.

Just because other comparable or lesser pitchers are getting that type of money doesn't make it a wise investment. I would much rather see what Stroman can do first and we have other young options like Nolin who is close as well. Sanchez may be ready to contribute in 2015 as well. Why not go with some league minimum guys who are more likely to stay healthy and as a result may very well out produce Morrow? At some point we need to stop paying for his potential and start paying for results.

That's just it. If he comes back and gives us a couple good months then I can see the option being picked up, otherwise I would be shocked if he is back. If we are maxed out in payroll and assuming payroll is similar next season, I'm not sure AA will be willing to gamble that money on a guy who we simply can't count on. let's wait and see if morrow even comes back this season.

He is still only 25, feels like he should be older. Maybe he could give us some spot starts if he performs well in AAA.

I have been a big supporter of his this far and even I admit Kratz should be getting more starts. If anything it should be 2/2/1 for Navarro, Kratz, and Thole.
