    I'm not saying he can't improve but his overall ceiling is just that of an average player. I can see him eventually being a similar hitter to his brother.

    He didn't say the player was claimed, he said the player was on the 40 man and did not clear waivers. That could still be Merryweather since Cleveland couldn't put him on waivers.

    No bat speed, no hard contact, no plate discipline and bad defense. Can't see him being a piece for the future but maybe a utility guy.

    Merryweather, Chang, Mercado (i can dream), Diaz are the only guys on the 40 man I can see. I'm sticking behind my conspiracy theory that Antonetti and Shapiro planned the whole thing out at the July 31st deadline. Shapiro wanted Mercado but JD wasn't healthy got Antonetti to get him at the last minute.

A senior sign for $20,000 out of NAIA Oklahoma Baptist in 2014, Merryweather first drew attention in intrasquad games in spring training with pitches that had Indians teammates muttering the word "nasty." The 24-year-old commands an interesting three-pitch mix. His fastball ranges 92-95 mph with a good changeup that is about 15 mph slower and an average breaking ball. An athletic pitcher who holds runners well, he does a good job repeating his over-the-top delivery.
