    Luke Voit was put on the IL for a sports hernia. Could really see Smoak as a target for the yankees. The Phillies and 2 other teams are supposedly interested as of yesterday. He's going to be evaluated in the next 24-48hrs to see if he requires surgery, if he does that 6 week recovery.

    It's one inning in a 9-1 game, Derek Law or Tim Mayza could of been used without issue. Goes with the one arm on the block.

    #10 on MLBpipeline #12 on BA Last line on the BA scouting report Allard's margins of error are so small that he has to do everything almost perfectly to have success. He has an above-average curveball and an average changeup, but he has has to nibble with all of them because he lacks a pitch to get swings and misses in the strike zone. Here's the last line of Kays scouting report. Kay tops out at 96 mph and sits 92-94 with an above-average, high-spin fastball that plays at the top of the zone in conjunction with his curve and mid-80s changeup at the bottom of the zone. His change flashes above-average potential and sinking action. Kay pitches with a bulldog demeanor and wants to strike out opponents. Which one do you want?

    I wonder if we could of got that for Biagini who the Braves were rumoured to be interested in. I don't think Allard is that good. What is appealing is where he is at for his age.

    From BA Thomas Hatch, RHP Age: 24 Hatch was the Cubs’ third-round selection in 2016 out of Oklahoma, where he found success using mainly a two-seamer and a slider. He worked a four-seamer into his mix in 2018 and was hit hard at Double-A Tennessee, where he’s returned in 2019. His changeup, which was below-average last year, still needs to come along for him to remain a starter. If he moves to the bullpen, he’s likely to fit in somewhere in the middle innings.

    I'd be OK with a Giles extension. I don't think that's going to happen but honestly liked everything I've seen with Giles.

    He shouldn't be a 40 man guy, this is only his 3rd professional season. Shouldn't need to go on the 40 man until 2021.

    How is it a lateral move? We're talking $1MM option for 2020 where we can have 6 years of a potential 5th starter/Pen arm? I don't see how Phelps helps us in 2020.

    Not a bad trade, he'll provide some innings or be a Gaviglio pen type. This is kind of what I expected from a Phelps trade. He did have a friendly $1MM club option next year too.
