They will still get a few great years from Cano and all the other contracts they signed were pretty risk free. They might make their run next year or the year after. They might want to see what they have in their young guys first, or the pieces they need are not available for the right price this offseason.
Their pitching is good but for position players they only upgraded in an area that they were fine in lol (Franklin, Ackley)
If their younger guys make a big contribution (paxton, Maurer, zunino, Smoak)
If Hart and Guti can stay healthy that is also important
They should still be okay.
"Mariners officials are signaling to agents and others in the industry that they could be nearing their payroll limit, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal opines that, if true, this makes the decision to spent the majority of their available funds on Robinson Cano shows that there was no plan in place for the Mariners."
If that is it... terrible offseason.
They still have a few players to trade though
Toronto fans are like a herd of lost cattle that are willing to head towards any home team that will be good. Raptors, Jays, Leafs, TFC have all been lost causes. I think it's time we sit down and invent a new sport. The odds would be greater than the CFL or NLL ever becoming big in this city.
The possible starting lineup could have been
Ellsbury, Jeter, Beltran, Tex, McCann, Choo, A-rod, Roberts/Johnson, Gardner
Bench: Roberts/Johnson, Suzuki, Nunez, Wells, Cervelli, Ryan?
wow
The Mariners need to start making some trades.. or they will have the best bench in 2014
Ackley, Franklin, Smoak/Montero are the odd men out.
What are the odds Tanaka signs with the Mariners? They should be in the running..
