He has cleared waivers, allowing the Sox to open a 40-man spot while maintaining control of Weeks. Boston added Weeks as part of the deal that sent Kelly Johnson to the Orioles last August. He is a 27-year-old switch-hitter who saw only minimal MLB action last year. He has struggled at the big league level since a promising start to his career with the Athletics. But he posted a .280/.392/.391 slash over 257 Triple-A plate appearances last year, and he remains interesting as a high-OBP/low-strikeout option at second

    Don't want ANY reliever making more than 6-8M MAX and that's pushing it AFAIC.

    Interesting: Mlbtr: The Indians were one of several teams who asked the Athletics about Josh Donaldson, Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The A’s said Donaldson wasn’t available, though that obviously ended up not being the case as the third baseman was dealt to the Blue Jays. Pluto wonders if the Tribe could’ve topped Toronto’s trade package had Donaldson been more openly shopped, or if A’s GM Billy Beane specifically liked what the Jays had to offer.

    1. I like this thread 2. I like Ultimate's general idea 3. I agree you don't need a full time DH 4. There will be some games @ NL parks with no DH 5. We won't be able to avoid having Thole face the occasional LHP 6. I think between EE/Smoak/Velencia and off days for the regulars it can be done well 7. I actually trust Gibby to do a good job of this. With Farrell I would not have.
