  1. LOL. Love it. (And yes I understand the entirety of the truth to sarcasm of this post)
  2. Rajai was much the same way
  3. That's what my brain tells me too. Pompey has higher end abilities especially offensively. My gut tells me Pillar is a better defender right now and I'd like him spending more time in CF to take advantage of it. So, I'm torn
  4. Pompey is faster but Pillar has just been so spectacular on defense. Should Gibby be playing Pillar in CF right now or are we focused on the long term idea that Pompey is our CF and lead-off hitter of the future so let him get as many reps as he can?
  5. It must be embarrassing to run a country that everyone wants to flee from
  6. With MLB Rule Change, Yoan Moncada Cleared To Sign By Jeff Todd [February 3, 2015 at 3:00pm CDT] Much-hyped Cuban second baseman Yoan Moncada is free to sign after MLB modified its standards for incoming players from his home nation, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports on Twitter. With a so-called “specific license” from OFAC no longer needed, MLB will now accept a “general license” combined with a “sworn statement [by the player] that the prospect permanently resides outside of Cuba and has no intent to return to Cuba,” Kiley McDaniel of Fangraphs reports on Twitter (quoting from a league memo). Already technically a free agent, Moncada was awaiting clearance to actually sign a contract. Some uncertainty in the standards had arisen in the wake of recent diplomatic maneuvers between the United States and Cuba, with MLB and the U.S. Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) reportedly working to sort out the impact of changes in the nations’ relationship. Moncada is perhaps the most intriguing player impacted by this news, but is presumably not the only one. Fellow middle infield prospect Andy Ibanez was also reportedly awaiting clarification of the new standards. The most immediate impact could be made by Hector Olivera, a veteran standout who figures to join an MLB roster in the near-term but who is still waiting to be declared a free agent, as Ben Badler of Baseball America notes. And the new system will clear a significant roadblock from the way of other Cuban players who can establish residency in a third country en route to the big leagues. Unlike the 29-year-old Olivera, Moncada and Ibanez do not qualify for exemption from MLB’s international bonus pool system. Accordingly, the winning team will be forced to pay a 100% penalty tax on the amount by which it exceeds its pool allotment — which, if expectations prove correct, could be quite a substantial sum.
  7. Here I pretty much agree with you. Yes, the bullpen would have been easier to improve. And he got a bit lucky TBH with Castro and Osuna.
  8. The starter could also have given up fewer runs so that we had a bigger lead before handing it over to the pen Or the offense could have scored more runs Everything helps. I just think the starters have been the weakest link so far. (And not surprisingly I might add)
  9. Yomiuri Giants Sign Juan Francisco By Mark Polishuk [April 21, 2015 at 11:35am CDT] Nippon Professional Baseball’s Yomiuri Giants have announced the signing of third baseman Juan Francisco to a one-year contract, The Japan Times reports. Francisco will receive 140 million yen (or roughly $1.17MM) in the deal. Francisco hit .220/.291/.456 with 16 homers in 320 plate appearances with the Blue Jays last season, though most of that production came early in the season — Francisco posted a .961 OPS over his first 126 PA and just a .613 OPS in his other 194. He also struck out 116 times in 2014, and his 36.3% strikeout rate was the second-highest of any hitter in baseball with at least 300 PA. This combination of power and strikeouts has defined Francisco’s career, as he has a .236/.297/.439 slash line, 48 homers and 375 strikeouts over his 1091 career PA with the Jays, Brewers, Braves and Reds. He was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox this offseason, non-tendered and then signed to a minor league deal by the Rays before opting out after he didn’t make their Major League roster.
  10. That's what I was thinking. I don't know what the rules are exactly but it's coming up awful soon and he has no residency yet.
  11. If true can he sign in this year's IFA period??? Or will he have to wait for next year?
  12. So who will give Yasiel Sierra the big bucks? And is he eligible for this year's IFA sign-fest???
  13. So are you but does anyone REALLY know... LOL. JK
  14. I can't see that Johann Santana has pitched any innings in the minors yet Is he still just doing bullpen sessions or something? How are they supposed to decide by April 28 if he's usable or not???
  15. Yes The starting rotation has been by far the biggest problem
