    True. It's all relative. He will probably equal or beat the arbitration records set by David Price the last couple years. Unless, of course, Shapiro locks him up long term. Is that very much against his usual MO though??

    We will be in direct competition with Boston for quality free agent starters. Which kind of sucks.

    Team should be very good in 2016 Martin is still an elite catcher and we have above average to elite position players all through the infield if Travis is back, with an excellent utility IF in Goins. OF is still good with Revere or Saunders, Pillar and Bautista, with Pompey potentially an excellent 4th or better It will come down, as it so often does, to pitching. We need at least 2 starters added, from among free agents or within (Osuna/Sanchez), and a 3rd if we can't re-sign Estrada. This is eminently do-able with the purported budget and this crop of free agent starters

    Full time at short with above average defense and below average bat even for the position. 1.0-1.5 WAR.

    Oops I feel like the smart kid who thought he aced the exam but then realizes he didn't read the question properly. LOL

    I said 0.5-1.0 WAR because I suspect Travis wins the 2B job and Goins plays fewer than 100 games as our primary backup IF. He will still play a fair bit and conveniently can probably provide solid defensive backup for 2B, SS and 3B which is great. He's a much better backup option than Kawasaki and could have long stretches of regular play if any of Travis, Tulo or Donaldson have DL stints.

    There's nothing else they can do for now. Lacava was the only short term option. Too much immediate work to do that requires someone with knowledge of the organization

    Exactly. To can't throw someone else in right now. They need someone who has been here and knows the org. Lacava will be important to have around for a while yet.
