  3. Friends
  4. Can't now There's a pact (we're like corrupt cops)
  5. 4 years 110M
  6. I wonder what teams he's considering? Thinking Boston must be one
  7. Sorry if old news MLB Network says Edwin won't sign anywhere until new luxury tax threshold has been set
  8. MLB network is reporting that there are two serious issues holding things up. The owners want an international draft. The Players Association wants to eliminate draft-pick compensation for free agents.
  9. If you want to extend guys long term it only seems smart to start those deals during the arbitration years to buy out some free agency years. Those guys are usually mid 20s of course and they might actually be worth their 7-8 year deal. It gives the player some long term stability and it helps the team maintain a player they might lose it they wait until they're free agents If you're Baltimore you consider that with Machado right now for example. But he's 6 years younger than Donaldson.
  10. The real question is SHOULD you ever give out deals of more than 5 years to anyone in their 30s
  11. Drive balls into the ground hard and injure himself trying to turn them into infield singles
  12. For sure they'd want Pillar and then we're still an outfielder short
  13. Maybe/maybe not wRC+ the last 3 seasons 2014 - 142 2015 -119 2016 - 92 2017 projects at 108 Still has 20 HR power He's almost certainly a better LH bat than Smoak next year
  14. BY ROB BIERTEMPFEL | Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, 10:33 a.m. In about 96 percent of his games as Pirates manager, Clint Hurdle has written Andrew McCutchen's name on the lineup card. Hurdle might not have that luxury much longer. Less than three weeks before MLB's winter meetings, there are signs the Pirates are ready to trade their star center fielder. At the recent general managers meetings, Pirates general manager Neal Huntington indicated other clubs have inquired about McCutchen. On Wednesday, Hurdle told the Tribune-Review he isn't certain how much longer McCutchen will remain in Pittsburgh. “I'll take it one day at a time,” Hurdle said. “I think any general manager that's in a market similar to the one we're in has to explore the possibility of (trading) players who have one or two years left on their contracts. You have to see what value is there to keep or to move. “That's the way we're going to need to continue to operate. It's the hard part of what we get to do.” McCutchen, who is on vacation in Hawaii, was unavailable for comment. “Andrew has been very black and white in the conversations I've had with him,” Hurdle said. “He's told me, ‘I'm under contract here, so I plan on playing here. However, I don't call all the shots, either.' ”
  15. Which is exactly why the stats are useful
  16. I'm always surprised to see that stats show Braun as a negative defender.
  17. Trade 4 Ryan Braun anyone??
  18. There is s*** available via free agency this off season
  19. DH for the national league anyone??
  20. So, at best they'll have to push to even get a draft in the first place, let alone combine them huh
  21. I'm all for an extra roster spot for most of the year, but limiting September callups Not keen on any major increase to the luxury tax threshold Qualifying offer system has to change Arbitration rules seem pretty good Need to consolidate the North American and international drafts What other significant items are up for negotiation?
  22. MLBTR: One key element of the current collective bargaining talks is whether there will be any change to the number of players who can be carried on a roster. Negotiations are entering their final phases with the current agreement set to expire on the first of December. There has reportedly already been consideration of going from 25 to 26 players on the active roster. (Here’s our story from two weeks back; the reporting came via Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.) And that concept is still under discussion even as the time nears for the league and the MLB player’s association to wrap up talks, per Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. There’s little question that the 26th man would be a boon to the player’s union, though MLBTR contributor Ryan Spilborghs has argued that it would be beneficial for teams as well. Balancing the cost of thirty new MLB salaries, sources tell Rosenthal, could come in part from new limitations on the size of the active roster in September. Currently, of course, organizations can utilize anyone on their 40-man roster during the month of September, as Spilborghs also recently discussed. The new rule under consideration might limit clubs to 28 players for any given game during the final full month of the season, with additional provisions allowing that group to be modified — but not every single day. It’s easy to see the merit in paring back the strange rule that significantly changes the game beginning on September 1. There likely wouldn’t be much of an impact on the transactional world, and it’s hard to imagine any fans taking issue. Adding a 26th man for the full season, though, might shake things up a bit. It would potentially reduce the exposure of players to serious injury, make it easier for clubs to employ specialized players at the major league level, and make the Rule 5 draft a more feasible means of snaring young talent.
  23. Seems worth a thread instead of being buried in about baseball mixed with transaction news The owners and players association are working on the deal now and details are leaking out
