And where was their spending coming into this? There might be someone who broke out in the winter leagues but really the top 100 are gone. So I'm wondering if they are looking elsewhere or their is a young Cuban they think will be available
So it's $244K to be used up before June 30, 2014? Don't know where the Jays spending is at but there are zero Central or South American prospects worth giving that to.
In the 47 games of our tournament involving 12 to 16 year olds...we saw two kids running catchers (where it is illegal), another factor in getting rid of it as kids see the pros do it and they nail an unprepared catcher. For me this was a no brainer but then again I feel the same way about escalating suspensions for hockey fighting.
Went to the M's...where he was told to "pull dat ball" and swing for power. He stopped taking pitches. I'll admit he needs to be put into a scenario where he can see more fastballs, but if that happens you'll see him thrive in this league
Montero will prove you all wrong. He'll not only hit for power in the majors, you'll see a .350 OBP out of him against all handedness.
In other news the Montreal Baseball feasibility survey comes out today at 10:30 and just got some heavy support from my boy Scott Boras
I don't know that is true. You are correct in saying that a few of us really disliked him but several people (in and outside of this forum) who I consider to be really smart baseball people really liked him by looking at the numbers. My issues were partly how he got the numbers (the bunt singles and the downward swing). And as you said he was worse than even his biggest detractors thought.
At the time of the trade I calculated about $100M (others, who are better with numbers than me, calcuated about $40M) in negative value in the Marlins trade...it might be worse now.
I assume you meant Eaton. Viciedo's splits are very similar in the minors too, so the sample size is bigger. However, I prefer that platoon guy to have some defensive value if he's going to get injury replacement time. Dayan is a butcher out there
I thought Pomeranz was one of the best pitchers I saw in the PCL last year. Then he came up and looked awful. I think he's still got a chance to be a major league pitcher or at least a really good reliever.
