Rays tie it...game goes 18 innings and Jays win. Then the protest is upheld and they played 14 useless innings. That would be amazing

There are several options. They could even uphold the protest and still not resume the game (as has been done a few times in the past) they could state that it's still a judgement call on the umpires part and they missed that both pitcher and batter were ready. Umpire judgments can't be protested.

They have to win the protest first. MLB hates to admit it's wrong with anything. They will likely state that getting the call correct is the most important factor.

But the wrong call was made to make the right call. Two wrongs don't make a right...but the Rays are making this right on their own. 16 games erased tomorrow?

This one is pretty valid actually. The Pinetar protest and the rain delay protest are the two that have been upheld in the past 30 years. The Pinetar just reserved the win.

They don't uphold too many where they decide to play the game from that point. Rays just need to win this one and it won't matter.

I think the data going into the 2011 season was approximately .40 ERA (increase for NL coming to AL/decrease going the other way) and about 0.5 K/9. Not sure if the data is getting closer or not.

yes that is exactly what he did. If Clayton Kershaw becomes available we should pass cause his numbers are obviously 100% based on facing a pitcher 3 times a night. Hopefully this "Can't compete in the AL East" crap will stop now that all the divisions are pretty much equal offensively (if anything the AL West and Central can complain)

About the same point they dealt Miggy and that got a pretty big haul (although admittedly that didn't work out great). Marlins have shown they will throw in parts to get the players they want. Cishek will be making $5M likely next year and should draw interest.

probably depends on who else is in on the deals, overpay might be needed to land Stanton. How much interference Loria has is a factor too (I think we know by now that will probably happen), if he's involved likely the hispanic angle will be more prevalent. Marlins biggest weakness is their middle infield (well infield in general), and not much help in the future (although I like the Greensboro middle of Romero and Bohn) and they have no catching future (I like Realmuto but he's a back-up). They'd be better off targeting Swihart or Vazquez ahead of Cespedes.

Red Sox have enough high end young talent that they may not need to throw in Cespedes but Cespedes, Swihart, Betts (and move to 2B) and a pitcher makes sense (with the Marlins throwing relievers and bench players back). The Marlins flip Cespedes if they don't compete.
