  1. Fun fact. Mookie has more bowling endorsement deals than baseball
  2. And in 1980 when MLB African American representation matched the population representation they were built differently? How the f*** can you seriously attempt to make a "genetic makeup" argument for baseball being less African American and leave out eyesight which would be the absolute only argument you could have for blacks not being "made for baseball". Or at least say African Americans are more genetically diverse than white Americans. Although describing the perfect baseball build would be impossible
  3. Because they don't have issues with growth. Lets bring this down to straight business. In 1980 20 something percent of the players were African American. 25 percent of their fanbase were african American. Now 10.6% of MLB fans are African American (and there are less fans in total). Take a look at the MLB sponsors, I can't think of one which caters to the African American markets. So next time you are bitching about the changes to speeding up the game, your response should be "baseball doesn't need to speed up the game to get more viewers...it needs more black people".
  4. Free agency...this is your time to choose your location. If it costs you a million or 2, oh well. I don't agree with much of what Stro says online but telling a fanbase that may have wanted him to sign there that they lost out because he doesn't agree with a hire they made...total respect.
  5. Likely that is the issue. It was dismissive. It is the assumption that baseball has actually done a damn thing to get to get blacks to relate to the game. It was the "I have a black friend so I am good in the black community, I mean I welcome more black friends but I am not going to be around blacks so they have to find me" of responses
  6. There is a near zero chance that Heyward performs to his contract (and it is questionable if he could even part-time in CF). I mentioned him more along the lines of reducing the trade return for a Baez. Cubs do not want to rebuild but they also don't want to get nothing for their 5 major FA's. MLB network guessed that it was Guerriel or Teo they were looking at as they think Schwarber is on the move. In rethinking things Jays and Cubs are not the greatest fit
  7. Jays are talking to the Cubs. Baez and Heyward?
  8. Please refrain from posting Jays Journal articles here
  9. Raymond. I will make cuts tonight. I
  10. Cora just said the Jays offered him a position as well but he wanted to manage again.
  11. Yes...now can everyone stop responding to the guys they know are past trolls who we banned
  12. Honestly haven't been paying attention to any fantasy...but I cleaned up my team to make it legal for trades today. PM me if there is something you like
  13. https://dutchbaseballhangout.wordpress.com/2020/11/03/dramatic-changes-in-minor-league-landscape-become-clear/ My favourite Dutch baseball man has laid out the MiLB changes we know so far.
  14. I am 100% for Bauer as I think there are things beyond most money and most years that could land him. The rest of the top 10 or so I don't see bargains or the guys that set up the Jays as legit contenders. You never see this many teams close to the 40 man limit prior to the rule 5 protection moves (Houston, Tampa, KC are all teams I know are at 39 right now). If teams want to be active in free agency they will end up dropping legit assets and the teams that have a bunch of trash (Boston, Washington, Philly) or space (f***ing Oakland of course) are going to improve without much risk. Other than Bauer or maybe a combo of 2 other top 10 FA's...i would rather see the team improving from other teams mistakes or financial hardships. My top 3 off season priorities would be 1. A big trade giving the Jays a star CF, 3B or SS who has 2 to 3 years of control 2. Bauer (give him full control of his own training, allow him to pitch every 4th day, and a player option every year at a reduced rate) 3. Young pitchers on the trash pile. f*** Springer, f*** Lemahieu, f*** Semien, stroman, Didi, Ozuna, Brantley and Turner. Talk to the next tier and low ball them.
  15. When you say bargains do you mean saving a year or millions on a top 10 free agent? Or the lower end guys? Cause I am all for low risk signees. I believe there are going to be some huge upside moves outside of teams 26 man rosters. Sorry if you have talked about this I haven't signed on since the WS ended
  16. I just don't believe it's a true contender without certain steps forward from existing players. It's not a mile away, I just don't want to see them invest either prospect or capital capital until I know what a few players truly are. It's my usual tight play.
  17. I am still good with the Jays signing no free agents. Concentrate on trades or hold steady. With that said the fanbase will burn the office down.
  18. Technically not giving the bonus to the person who brings in $40M every year and did so as projected, instead giving it to the guy who made $30M but was expected to make $28M is closer to the "give everyone a trophy". In the end I'm going to guess that 2 voters voted for Charlie to get him his 3rd place finish...which for some f***ing inexpiable reason they call it a finalist!
  19. Morton is considering a June start next year. He enjoyed how his body reacted to a shorter season.
  20. Pendy will get his $25 McDonald gift card tonight as well. Happy Meal, happy banning
  21. That would be based on the premise that anyone in the office understands the moves and believes they actually work
  22. Meh 2019 revenue sharing was $118M for each team. Rays contributed $95M. Yes it's a 10% increase on their bottom line but this isn't 2016 rev sharing
  23. But here is the thing with numbers and "stuff". He was the best reliever in baseball over the past 90 innings. If he was a proven "closer" no one would question the move. Rays if they didn't see a huge difference in his "stuff"....you go to the best pitcher you've had over the past 2 years. The average velo was still 95.6. in the end Nick Anderson's last 90 innings was better than any 90 innings of Snell's cy young. In the end. Snell couldn't get Austin Barnes out. If he gets Austin he probably sees Betts.
  24. Rays are not moving anywhere. They are among the most profitable teams over the past 3 seasons.
