  1. Didn't even know Boyd was in Montreal. He could make starts in the second half.
  2. Brandon Phillips is back where his career began.
  3. All a projection system does is weigh past information in a way that minimizes error. It is similar to what you do in your head but will be more accurate over a large pool of players. It's not arbitrary at all and is a useful tool. At any rate, projections and my intuition agree that Saunders, Martin and Reyes are comparable hitters.
  4. He's a serviceable third outfielder when healthy; much more power than other speed-first guys.
  5. GD bashing is every thread. He must of meant the article.
  6. 87 wins. Think the rotation will end up being decent.
  7. Norris may win AL ROY.
  8. I'm cool with you getting Iglesias. The rules aren't clear either way and this sets a clear precedent going forward.
  9. I asked what you were looking for and could have put together a legitimate offer given a response. I don't like making offers without knowing what the other team wants. Oh well.
  10. I, too, emailed Gibbers and made it clear I could give up premium assets for Marte. Frustrating.
  11. I noticed Iglesias and was waiting for him to make his debut. Thought that was the rule.
  12. Matt West is gon be gud
  13. So you're saying there are better ways to evaluate a pitcher's control. That's fair.
  14. They really don't though. Pitchers almost always try to throw a strike on the first pitch. Pitchers throw strikes out of the zone on purpose on a great deal of other pitches. http://i.imgur.com/sAISjC5.png It clearly means something about a pitcher going forward. Exactly! That's why the stat works. Pitchers who get first strikes are able to get further strikes. Pitchers aren't good because they get first strikes, first strikes are a sign of a pitcher with a good control profile.
  15. Zone% correlates very poorly with actual walk rate. F-Strike% is better and more predictive.
  16. Wow that sounds like fun, King. Take some pitchers that we can use at Breaking Blue!
  17. IIRC, the physical only showed that he had an abnormally small UCL. Keith Law thinks that Aiken will still be a first round pick too. I don't really think he mishandled it. Thank goodness Norris has been saved from the Boxy curse.
  18. Don't you recall? Trout can't hit the high fastball. #bust
  19. Seems like they're spending money to acquire talent, regardless of position. Like what the Red Sox have done. Buy as many talent as you can, figure out the rest later.
  20. Wow. This is a lot of money for Friedman.
  21. I wonder what it would take to get Erasmo Ramirez. He's out of options and the Mariners front office seems to dislike him. So he'll probably be available in trade and I think he's actually decent.
  22. You mean if there are cascading effects of good/poor OBP hitters arranged in a series? That could be an interesting thing to study. It's definitely dramatized and the true meaning is lost on many people. It's not about OBP and Jeremy Brown, it's about exploiting market inefficiencies. In recent years, that's shifted from OBP to catcher framing and other new ideas. Interesting book suggestion, I'll look into it.
  23. You should read Moneyball!
  24. Getting ejected in a Spring Training game is as Diamondbacksy as it gets. They'll probably keep him in the desert for life now. Delgado may not make the rotation and would be great too. He'd definitely make the team though (would work in long relief).
  25. Just went back and watched the Miguel Castro appearance. He made Longoria look really silly. Wow.
