Dewayne Wise (L) CF And, obviously, the Astros. 6. Brandon Laird ® 3B 7. Rick Ankiel (L) RF 8. Ronny Cedeno ® SS 9. Marwin Gonzalez (S) 2B All of those are probably worse than ours.

It's better than the core Ricciardi had in place, no? And most rebuilds do take 5 years. I think a retool could potentially work.

Who would you keep, though? I say build around Lawrie (duh), Morrow, and Encarnacion as the pieces from our MLB roster, MAYBE keep Reyes if you can't find a good deal, although I don't see a team like the Dodgers not willing to pony up for him. And then the obvious pieces like Sanchez and Gose from our minor league system. We've got a much better core in place than we did when we started the last rebuild, and I think it'd be shorter.

Meh, your first point is fair, but he's not Brett Wallace or anything. My point is that I don't care how good a player is, EXPECTING 6+ WAR is pretty stupid and setting yourself up for disappointment.

Somehow I don't think it's a rookie coaching staff that's the reason that we're losing. Just a hunch, but I think it's because our players are playing about 2000000% below their career averages.
