  1. This is such a fantastic read! And ridiculous! https://blogs.fangraphs.com/plop-it-thirty-poems-about-the-new-era-overlap-hats/
  2. Oh, and quoting you so you see the new thread.
  3. In the case of trading Vladdy, there are two options: 1. Trade him before Opening Day, which feels almost impossible at this point. But the return will be *much* higher because any player who is traded before OD is eligible to receive a Qualifying Offer, which means the team will gain a draft pick in the 2026 draft after Vlad leaves in free agency this offseason. 2. Between OD and July 31, Guerrero is eligible to be traded to any team, though he will not be eligible for the Qualifying Offer.
  4. Cohen definitely inflates the market but I don't think he inflates it that much. But hey, it's possible.
  5. I don't think the market is trending toward those kinds of dollars. Juan Soto is a unicorn. He has cleared an OPS+ of 140 in seven of the eight years he has been in the league. While he's bad defensively, there have never been questions about where he fits defensively or his physical conditioning. Vlad has cleared an OPS+ of 140 just twice in his career. I'm a big supporter of signing Vlad and overpaying for him but I don't think the market is going to come together the way he wants. Teams no longer fall over themselves for slugging first baseman who can't play defense the way they did in the past.
  6. Yes, this. It’s usually shorthand for “no deferrals” or “deferred money in today’s dollars”.
  7. Given the numbers, I also think this came from the organization. It makes the most sense.
  8. I was leaning toward blaming the Jays for not getting this done, now I'm leaning toward blaming Vlad. I knew someone would leak the numbers at some point and if Vlad's sticking point is current-day value versus having some deferred money... c'mon. The two sides aren't far apart. This should get done and everyone move on. It appears the Jays are offering somewhere north of $450m in today's value and $500m in money overall. That's way beyond reasonable for a player with so many obvious questions surrounding him.
  9. You're all spot on, it's Lind.
  10. This is somewhat Twins-focused but a fun throwback to a very good player most of us haven't thought about in quite awhile. Shannon Stewart: A Memorable Outfielder Who Turned Around The Twins' 2003 Season - History - Twins Daily TWINSDAILY.COM In one of the Twin's best trade deadline acquisitions, Shannon Stewart was obtained at the 2003 trade deadline, propelling the Twins to three division titles in four seasons.
  11. Yep, we were able to identify the problem yesterday afternoon, the issue should be resolved now.
  12. Especially if Tucker is asking for seven years and Vlad wants 10+, which very well could end up being the case.
  13. Yeah, I noticed. I sent a note to our server tech, hopefully he can address it this weekend.
  14. Yeah, he's gonna need a 6-win season to get anything close to that, I think. Because if you're going to drop a massive pile of cash on a player, would you pick Tucker or Vlad? I'd go with Tucker, frankly.
  15. Yep, something is still happening but it's weird none of the other sites are suffering. I've sent another note to our server tech about it.
  16. Anyone else seeing this message? We restarted some server instances, which fixed some slowness on the other sites but it seems to be lingering here.
  17. If you haven't been following the absurdity of what's going on in Red Sox camp, here's a humorous take on it. Stomach Bug Besieges the Fort: Red Sox Bedeviled by Bum Tum - Just For Fun - Talk Sox TALKSOX.COM Internal turmoil has stricken the Red Sox, which is to say that a whole lot of players have a stomach bug.
  18. I like the comp to Freeman for Vlad. It's a much better comparison than Acuna, Albies, etc. And I think it's often overlooked that both Vlad and Bichette come from generational wealth. That surely gives them a perspective and patience that most other players, particularly Latin players, can't afford to have.
  19. Oh by the way, any time any user has a problem, don't hesitate to start a thread in this forum and tell me about it!
  20. Thanks. That's also been the case for me, I'll send a note to our server dev.
