Buffalo Bisons

Buffalo (8), Lehigh Valley (12) - 6/26

Box Score

The Buffalo Bisons were slow to get things going in this game, however, Lehigh Valley was not. Three singles, a double, and a triple got things started on the scoreboard for the IronPigs. Up 4-0, they weren't done though, as they put up another four spot in the top of the third inning on five singles, a hit-by-pitch, and a walk. The trouble for the Bisons didn't end there, unfortunately, Lehigh Valley again added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. This time it came on a three-run home run off the bat of Garrett Stubbs. The Bisons wouldn't go easily into the night, they started chipping away at the lead. Will Robertson homered in the bottom of the fourth and Will Wagner blasted a home run of his own in the fifth, both solo shots. In the sixth, the IronPigs added a run on a sacrifice fly. Buffalo would add four to cut the deficit in their half of the sixth on three bases-loaded walks and an RBI single from Michael Stefanic. To make things interesting, Riley Tirotta drove in two runs on an RBI single in the seventh. That is where the scoring stopped for Buffalo, as they would go on to lose this one 12-8.

Buffalo (3), Lehigh Valley (8) - 6/27

Box Score

In the Friday night contest between Buffalo and Lehigh Valley, pitching was the key factor and the Bisons were at a disadvantage. Andrew Painter, the Phillies top prospect, was on the mound and he did what he normally does. He made easy work of the Bisons for much of the game. He went 4.2 innings, gave up five hits, and just two runs. Conversely, CJ Van Eyk was the Buffalo starting pitcher and he threw the same 4.2 innings, but he surrendered seven hits, two walks, and seven earned runs. In a 7-1 game, Joey Loperfido singled in a run during the bottom of the fifth for the Bisons. Justin Crawford added the run back for Lehigh Valley on a sacrifice fly. Michael Stefanic would add an RBI single to center field in the ninth, but the Buffalo Bisons lost this one 8-3.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

New Hampshire (1), Hartford (2) - 6/26

Box Score

It was another tough matchup for the New Hampshire bats on Thursday evening against Hartford. McCade Brown would toe the rubber for the Yard Goats and he has been a top tier strikeout artist on the season. New Hampshire's newest bat, Jackson Hornung, ended his first at-bat of the game in the first inning by squaring up a hanging slider and crushing it over the left field fence for a solo home run. Benny Montgomery tied things up in the bottom half with an RBI single back to New Hampshire's pitcher, Grant Rogers. A sacrifice fly from Bryant Betancourt in the bottom of the third inning gave Hartford the lead. Brown held the Fisher Cats in check for the rest of his day, going five strong innings. In the sixth, New Hampshire had something going with Eddinson Paulino ending up at third base following a double and advancing on an error. Unfortunately, the hot bat of Hornung could not cash him in, as he ended the inning with a strikeout. New Hampshire went quietly into the night from there, dropping the game 2-1 to Hartford.

The Friday night game in the series against Hartford was another rough one for New Hampshire. Ryan McCarty got a first inning double, but was stranded there when Peyton Williams grounded out to third base to end the threat. Ryan Watson, who was on the mound for New Hampshire, breezed through the bottom of the first, before running into trouble in the second inning. A walk, single, and a hit-by-pitch loaded up the bases and another hit-by-pitch brought in the first run of the game for Hartford. A ground out would bring in the second run of the inning, with Watson getting another ground out to escape the jam, giving up only two runs. New Hampshire had a good rally going in the sixth, led by Jackson Hornung's and McCarty's singles. Eddinson Paulino grounded into a double play to end the Fisher Cats’ hopes of a big inning, but Hornung did score on the play, cutting Hartford's lead to 2-1. Kyle Karros hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh, extending the Yard Goats’ lead to two. New Hampshire never got anything else going and fell 3-1.

Chris McElvain took the bump for the Canadians, who had one of his best starts of the season going four scoreless innings. Carter Cunningham was the only run producer for the Canadians, giving the early lead with a sac fly. Julio Ortiz gave up the lead back in the fifth inning, allowing an RBI-single to Alexander Ramirez. Carter Cunningham took the lead back with a solo homer, but then after Irv Carter pitched three scoreless innings, Yondrei Rojas blew his first save in the ninth to Adrian Palencia who hit a two-RBI double.

Dunedin Blue Jays

Yimi Garcia pitched a dominant inning in his last rehab appearance in Low-A before the game had  to be postponed due to rain. He allowed an unearned run on a throwing error, but a couple of homers from Lizandro Rodriguez and Edward Duran had the Jays up 3-1. Alexis Hernandez had a good game with two hits, including the first run for the Jays. Jay Schueler earned a save despite allowing allowed a run, and the Jays ended up pulling it out. 

Rojas was sitting 95-96 with his fastball and touched 97. The lefty should be making his way up to New Hampshire after showing dominant stuff in his rehab outings. It looks like he made another velocity jump this season after starting off on the IL with a mid-section injury.

The Jays got blanked in the second game of the double-header. Eliander Alcalde went four strong innings but gave up a solo shot in the first to give Bradenton the lead for good. The bullpen for Dunedin gave up four runs, with Eminen Flores striking out three batters in two innings but losing control of the zone. Bennett Flynn had to deal with some shaky defense which resulted in an unearned run scoring in addition to an earned run.

The Tigers squad took the lead by one to start this game, in the third inning, on a Maikol Orozco RBI single. He scored via a Junior Tilien double to give them a two-run lead. In the bottom of the third inning, Enmanuel Bonilla drove in a run for the Blue Jays team. It was quiet until the fifth, when David Beckles drove in J.R. Freethy, who had tripled. Then Yorman Licourt hit his fifth home run of the season to put the Blue Jays team up 4-2. Diego Dominguez would pitch two innings to finish the game for a save and a Blue Jays win.

The Blue Jays team took the lead 1-0, in the top of the first inning in the rematch between the two teams on Friday. Yorman Licourt hit an RBI single. In the bottom of the first, a rehabbing Brandon Barriera had command issues again, walking three. He also committed an error on a pickoff allowing a run to score and gave up a sacrifice fly. He would only get one out on the day before hitting his pitch limit. In the seventh, the Blue Jays team scored on an error and a single to tie the game. They would take the lead in the eighth, when Drew Jemison was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded. The Blue Jays would go on to win this one 4-3.

It was a really bad day down on the island for BJB. Facing the Pirates Black team, BJB committed four errors and struck out 10 times in the seven inning game. They only managed to scrape together two hits in the game, a double from J.T. Bain and a single from Yeicer Crespo. BJB was routed in a forgettable game 8-0.

Friday saw a much improved BJB team, at least with the bats. Down 3-0 in the bottom of the first, BJB got two runs on the scoreboard from a ground out by Juarlin Soto and a wild pitch that scored Angel Guzman. In the second inning, Rafael Flores singled home Daniel Dominguez and Franklin Rojas added a single that scored Esmeiquel Arrieche, while Flores was thrown out at home on the play. In the third, Carlos Garcia reached first base on a single and then advanced through the bases and scored aided by three consecutive wild pitches. BJB got a run in the sixth on an RBI groundout, taking the lead 6-5. After exchanging runs late, the game headed to extra innings tied at seven. In the eleventh, CUR scored the ghost runner and one more, while BJB couldn't score any and fell 9-8.

DSL Blue Jays Red

Box Score

BJR took on the New York Yankees DSL team Thursday morning. After falling behind 1-0, BJR tied it up in the bottom of the second inning when Nestor Urbina scored on a wild pitch. Urbina would give BJR the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly that scored Nicolas Vergara. In the sixth, BJR added three more runs when Urbina doubled home Diego Arce, Juan Sanchez doubled him in, and Kennew Blanco hit a sacrifice fly. BJR took this game easily 6-1.

Marcelino Theodore: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Box Score

BJR had a special day at the plate, but their pitching could not match the bats. BJR walked 14 times in the game, but only added six hits. In the top of the fourth, Luis Felipe grounded out, scoring Randy Soto. In the top of the seventh, a bases-loaded walk scored a run, followed by a wild pitch that added another. Juan Sanchez folded those up by  launching his second home run of the season to left field, scoring two. ARR didn't stop scoring though, they managed to put up five runs in the bottom half of the inning and cruised to a 12-5 win.
