Well, yeah.

No FO is dumb enough to completely ignore X demographic but you can have preferences. If Normon Gorman fell to #12 and he was the clear BPA they obviously won't be like "nope, pass...not a college dude".

AA drafted college guys high too.

You again haven't proven at all that these decisions are Shapiro's work in any way shape or form.

The Cleveland example is simple: once his job requirements moved to more important s*** than dictating draft strategy (which is minuscule in the grand scheme of running a baseball franchise from a business, sales, ticketing, marketing, TV, etc. sense), suddenly the Cleveland drafts became much more open towards risk. So clearly whatever HIS preferences WERE, they no longer became the driving force of the team's overall draft plan. His role here is the same as it was in those years in Cleveland wherein he obviously let Antonelli and whoever else decide WTF they wanted to do with the draft. I'm suggesting that he's clearly letting his employees come up with a draft "strategy" themselves, why the hell would he care about enforcing whatever prejudice he has when its on others to find and sign talent?

Shapiro also didn't do dick-all in Latin America for the most part either, has he enforced his Stalin-esque dictatorship in that realm as well? Of course not, as this team is still a major player in Latin America just like they were under AA. So clearly someone NOT named Shapiro made that call, or more precisely he's letting actual baseball operations people make those decisions. The draft would fall under the same umbrella.

I know I shouldn't be one to talk, but you guys are arguing about some pretty dumb and inconsequential s***.

Cool. BA changed their website and now I can't access any of their paid content. That's neat.

Anyone with BA having a similar problem? I just assumed it would fix it's self in a day or so but still can't access it.

My subscription auto renews in December of each year, so i paid for a full year like 3 months ago.

Travis Swaggerty went 0-4 tonight with 3 Ks.

South Alabama has now lost 6 in a row. Ouch.

Nice! Want to increase the chance that he'll be there when the Jays pick. :P

[TD=class: chat_desc]Big Jim: Any chance Madrigal or Swaggerty make it to Toronto at pick 12? If not, who’s the next best college bat available?

[TD=class: chat_desc]Kiley McDaniel: Next best is up for debate. Probably Bohm, but cases to be made for Jenista, Larnach, Conine, Eierman. I think I’d have them in that order, from like 11-25 overall roughly.

[TD=class: chat_desc]shortyduwwop: Trevor Larnach; how real is the power he’s showing and how does his defense in the outfield project? Is his early season performance moving him into the teens on your rankings?

[TD=class: chat_desc]Kiley McDaniel: Fringy to average in RF. ~65 raw, hasn’t lifted the ball a ton in the past and still can do it more but the ball explodes so some liners are getting out. Probably 15-22 right now, or so.

[TD=class: chat_desc]Kiley McDaniel: Saw him yesterday. He’s not getting past pick 15. It’s Kyle Tucker with 70 speed and maybe a little less power. And he’s 90-93 on the mound. I’ll post a video on twitter after we’re done here. The teams that were heavy at that game were all in the top 15.

Kyle Tucker plus 70 speed. That's some pretty big praise.

So would they say he has a Ted Williams swing? :P

Travis Swaggerty stats update

58AB: 345/542/621. 4HR, 23BB, 13K, 3SB, 1CS.

He probably goes in the 8-13 range right now. That's just my uneducated guess.

and some juicy rumors! Per Kiley McDaniel Tigers have been linked to Kelenic at #1st overall. Still a lot of time and a LOT can change, but always fun to read.

Been hearing this for a month but hearing it more now: the Tigers are looking at Waukesha HS (WI) center fielder Jarred Kelenic as the #1 overall pick. Not just a rumor designed to get other player's prices down. Auburn RHP Casey Mize is still the favorite right now to go 1-1.

What are the chances Singer drops to us?

Pretty likely at this point. He could always finish the season strong and land back in the Top 10, but his stock is down to mid first round now.

His stuff is down and he's still a reliever risk as essentially a two-pitch guy with an awkward arm angle. That in combination with the fact that his performance is down and this being a strong class at the top half of the first round means that it wouldn't be even remotely strange for him to be there at #12. The more interesting question is whether or not he's even an auto-pick for us at that point considering that he already failed one physical with us.

Id say for sure we should take him...but I'm biased lol

Fangraphs just dropped their first mock which is only 10 picks but packs some potential team/player connections, among which mentions that we are showing interest in Kumar Rocker and Connor Scott which are literally my two favourite options at #12 right now.

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2018-mlb-mock-draft-v-1-0/

We have Rocker going eighth and Pittsburgh showing interest in him with the 10th pick. Toronto (12) is another distinct possibility as they’ve been showing a lot of interest in recent weeks. The Blue Jays are also rumored to be on Florida prep CF Connor Scott — as is Texas (15) among others clubs in the Nos. 10-20 range.
