IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I don't think it is though. If he tears/badly pulls his hammy you dl him right away. If its a little tight and he thinks he might be able to play in 3 days you wait it out. Id rather 3 days of a short bench then a healthy rasmus on the dl. I agree with this.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 I believe the thinking was that it may have been minor and as such a couple days of rest would have been the cure however once you put someone on the DL you cannot recall them before that time. I may be wrong on the latter part though. Our medical staff is also a disaster and are unable to diagnose an injury.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Yes but.............Already happened with Reyes in Montreal. If he can't play put him at DL and call up someone. Using this logic we should have put lawrie on the 15 dl when he was out a few days earlier
IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Absolutely right It just seems like there have too many times over the past 2 years that they bench a guy and then DL him later and miss out on the chance of adding to the roster. This happened with Lind and Lawrie multiple times plus Melky and Bautista IIRC. You're not going to be right all the time of course, but the team just isn't equipped to handle 1-2 guys on the bench, not playing but not on the DL, and it feels like it's been that way almost all season long so far. Part of the root cause of the bench problem is the pitching. Until that is addressed properly the musical chairs will continue with the short bench. I know it is very difficult at this time to fix the starting rotation properly (any team giving up starters will be looking at the best in your farm) however you cannot continually be maxing out the BP cuz sooner or later all their arms will fall apart and you will be saddled with an even bigger problem than what the Jays currently have on their hands. If you cannot be counted on to throw at least 6 innings by now but your stuff is still good then to the BP you need to go. BP has too many arms in it? Forget about trying to save assets and just weed out the dead-wood.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Pointing out that you are always wrong makes me an *******? The problem is clearly the pitching and you are criticizing the hitting.[/ Yup that's what I said! That's right or offence not showing up hasn't cost us one game! Lol Ps hitting home runs alone does not make this a great hitting club! Helps mask the problem at the plate! How many times have we been owned at the plate this year alone! I think how we are deploying our pitchers is a problem just as much as who we are using too! But minimize it with better over all use and save the pen too! If we are going to use Happ and McGowan at least have one of Redmond,Rogers or Stroman lined up and ready to go! I would even rotate them in starts as a tandem they should get us seven or eight innings with minimum bull pen use!
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 There is nothing we can do to avoid these injuries until we get real grass. Anyone who has run around on the newer style turf knows that it is still nothing like real grass.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Our medical staff is also a disaster and are unable to diagnose an injury. This may be true but once you are paying them to analyse and/or treat injuries then it would be foolish to not abide by their recommendations.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Are some of these injuries part of our improved off season training program designed to reduce injuries! Lol
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) I do feel there is a need for a 7-10 day DL list as a option in the mlb too! With some sort of early recall if after 5 games with a limited amount of time this option can be used. This may only work for position players and relievers! As Aa and others would abuse this maybe on starters! Lol might need a 2 game start loss for them! Edited May 15, 2014 by BigBounceyBlueBalls

Forget about trying to save assets and just weed out the dead-wood. Looks like Wagner,s arm is already done. When you have two starters barely getting thru 4 and you don't seem to want to use the long guys BP arms tend to fall apart . The fact that Rogers and Redmond weren't pitching well and Gibby wouldn't use them is part of the issue. Gibby hasn't done a good job using the BP but he has been saddled with underperforming ********
