In the right situation if a pitcher like Doc and MB who love to get the ball and pitch quick and late in the game they get in a zone or a role if you have the time out you could use your challenge on a call that may not be so close just to get the pitcher out of his rhythm. How ever this would not work for a lot of pitchers likely. I still think it sounds stupid though lol.

If they use their challenge on a play that's not even close it would take what, 1 or 2 minutes for them to review the play. Hardly enough time to "ice the pitcher". It would be no different then a pitcher having to sit on the bench every half inning.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 What's the rule on how fast the manager must decide to challenge? If they're allowed to wait in the dugout until the replay comes up on jumbotron, then decide to challenge there will be a problem.

I would say until the next pitch is thrown. He may be able to go out talk to the ump for a bit until they see a replay but it is more or less going to be a gut call or an important part of the game I would say. I don't see many opposing stadiums throwing up a replay so the other manager can see it.

I don't think it would work either but I could see a manager or 2 trying it.

"The manager will verbally inform the umpire of his intention in a timely manner" doesn't really give a time limit, but my guess would be the same as Sammy's until the next pitch is thrown.

I would think there has to be a time limit too as there are many ways to stall a baseball game.

Doesn't really matter if the stadium shows the replay or not, both teams will have a guy that has access to the video feeds. The manager might not even be the guy that ends up making the decision, could be the guy in the video booth. "Teams will be allowed to have a club employee monitoring video and communicating with the manager whether or not to challenge. Both the home and road teams must have equal access to all video, but no additional electronic equipment will be allowed."
